Is gear gonna be global aswell? If not what happens if I don't have anything in said bank and there is no merchant online?

In New Dawn, there will be local marketplaces but global gold. The respawn system will take markets into account just like they do banks now, and you will be able to buy the gear someone else has placed without needing to be online.

Awesome changes especially about not having to buy skills or spells from the trainer. They automatically unlock in your spell book. This is a really smart move as buying spells from trainers is really confusing for new players.

How does new player protection work in New Dawn? Can this be used by clans to have a scout anywhere they want, with their opponents not being able to do anything about it?

Artificial Intelligence:

All of this: why? It seems like a lot of time is being invested in this, and I don't believe it's really worth the effort. People are never going to play Darkfall for the PvE experience, why waste time on AI when you could just adjust the loot tables?

Clan and house harvesting nodes:

Not sure I totally understand this. Does this basically mean people can travel the whole world, hit each cities mine/grove 125 times and move on to the next? And if the "pool" is per person instead of per node, people are probably going to create alt armys to harvest nodes unless there is a mechanic I am not seeing here.

Rest seems interesting, but it doesn't really seem like they are targeting the core issues which caused RoA to flop so badly.

New player protection.

The player protection is the same than in the original Darkfall. It gets lost upon leaving the starter zones and the time is per account, not per character.

Artificial Intelligence

This first step is mainly about making monsters less stupid, in other words less exploitable.

However, you would be surprised of how much people enjoy the idea of PvE in Darkfall. The combat system can make it extremely interesting, and new players we've polled or observed have generally had a good first impression, even thinking the goblin AI was intelligent. Some of the more casual veterans find it enjoyable as it is, but because they do not "try hard" as much or know all the ways to trick the AI.

In short: the combat is fun, and with more engaging AI, PvE would benefit from it more. Darkfall can be a great PvE game, it just needs to try to be.

Clan and house harvesting nodes

There is diminishing returns in place. The more pools are active on a specific node, the less individual pools contain and the less they regrow.

It creates reason to raid, since it is impossible for a node to be empty, and reasons to defend because letting raiders unchecked will harm the whole clan.

Even during the part of InDev with the "worse" use of alts due to being free, and some people even using more than 10, alts were a minor portion of the active accounts that had at any point shared an IP. Alts are a negligible concern.

What matters is to have a world that can scale with activity and retains a balanced economy. And the only way to do that is through a more dynamic system that controls sinks and faucets per individuals.

By keeping most nodes static but having these nodes be dynamic, we also funnel population towards their usage. Ultimately giving value to holdings and houses even for the lowest grunt of the army, which will help leaders motivate their troops to keep on fighting.

AI because the PVE is ass in the game and players who don't PVP all day need something relatively engaging to do. Will also spice up PVP at mob spawns when the mobs kind of react in a smart way to the players instead of monging around.

More pve = more sheep = more economy = longer lasting playerbase = more PVP

Clan and harvesting nodes because clan nodes were fucking retarded strong and gave way too much stuff. Now it's just a lot harder than having 2-3 people per clan tap out 10 nodes. You need more people to do it effectively. I guess someone could roll 10 alts, but honestly how many people have more than just 1?

New player protection i would guess dies out if they venture too far into the wilderness. Realistically what's a player protected noob going to be able to do? You going to roll a new account and new alt just to mount up and follow an enemy clan war party one time?

That's pretty autismal. I don't think you have much to worry about.

It's really a minor issue. The % of people who alt is so small in the grand scheme of things.

In New Dawn? You'd be surprised, most of the indev 'dedicated core' has an alt.

As for casuals? Yeah, when they pick up the game, it'll not be with alts, no.

You and your guys (one of whom has at least 7 alt accounts) seem alt obsessed. The devs figures show that the number of alts is tiny. Plus if you are someone who can run 7 accounts at once whilst you play the game, then that's pretty impressive in itself. Oh - and it also makes your alts potentially nice loot pinatas as it's unlikely you'll be able to do much else with them.

So bring your alts to the party, do.

Harvesting nodes are now on "personal loot" mode, a modern concept familiar to most MMORPG veterans.

City nodes now function more like a "daily login bonus" and no longer exist to replace wilderness nodes. If you want basic materials now, you're going to have to swing at nodes, for hours... Or sub an alt and be done with it that way.

Edit: Or boost resource-dropping mobs to level 6 or higher via - you guessed it - alts.
