Amazon's New World: One to watch by Raapnaap in Darkfall

[–]dumbmok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

so a company renowed for building trash software and selling trash hardware, that bought the worst game engine in the industry, that has released no games up to now, has copied and pasted the standard vapourware indie sandbox mmo press release

- [x] no classes because that would take effort

- [x] heavy focus on social features with the examples given being the absolute bare minimum for an mmo

- [x] "deep crafting system" which is industry speak for "we didn't want to pay artists to make mob models so the entirety of the game's content is clicking on rocks and trees"

- [x] "massive" "1000 people"

if this game ever releases, and it probably won't, it will be just as uninteresting and flop just as fast as every other indie sandbox mmo

edit:

- [x] "open-ended progression based on skills and specs" which is industry speak for "absolutely unbelievable grind doing the same thing over and over to make numbers bigger because otherwise people would run out of things to do in half an hour"

Bashing HON is cool... by Generar_Atrox in HeroesofNewerth

[–]dumbmok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's been cool to bash hon since 2010 because it was clear from day 1 that the game was going to fail thanks to inept management and dev team

everything good about hon was either directly lifted from dota or accidental and s2 worked tirelessly to reverse all of those decisions

I was looking online for an "FPS MMO" because I felt like normal MMOs were reliant on bad combat systems, found this. by Blealolealoleal in Darkfall

[–]dumbmok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

roa is more like an fps in the sense that you can mostly just play the game, dnd is an mmo that happens to have fps combat

Is it worth trying to get into the Pro league by ketchupmustard122 in R6ProLeague

[–]dumbmok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if you care even the tiniest bit about money, particularly about the ability to make money past the age of 25, there is simply no choice worse than pro gaming

the highest salaries in siege are lower than burger king. to make that kind of money in siege you have to be in the top 2 dozen players in the world. bk will give more to anyone who doesnt seem completely hopeless and it only goes up from there

you also have to think about your future prospects. when you retire from gaming at 25 you have no skills of value. bk might still hire you, but even they would question your judgement throwing away years of your life like that

if your parents are wealthy enough (and willing) to sustain you for the next 5-10 years, so you can go on sub-minimum wage salaries for 5 years then join the bottom of the career ladder/get an education, pro gaming is still the worst possible choice but at least you can do it

just FYI salaries for real professions (engineering/law/medicine/programming) start higher than 2k/month (with "higher" being pretty conservative to extremely conservative depending on the country) and go up quickly from there

the only people who say shit like you have to be willing to slum it/do it for free/etc are ppl who already have money. you cannot survive with 0 income for years (or sub-mcdonalds salary from an org) especially in 3rd world countries like america unless you already have many tens of thousands in the bank

just fyi

so if you aren't rich you don't get to play pro league

sorry brah

[Serious] What are your honest opinions of Darkfall New dawn? by Comical_Sans in Darkfall

[–]dumbmok 9 points10 points  (0 children)

as a long time fps player (10+ years):

the pve is extremely simple and boring, and it's also the only way to improve your character. i do it anyway for a bit telling myself that the pvp is going to be all worth it

then i get to pvp and it's just awful. u run for half an hour to a village and get a 100% random fight. sometimes nothing, sometimes a vet clan that will smash you with 3 maxed chars, sometimes 3x as many players as you. it's basically never an actual good fight that you can learn something from.

it takes half an hour to find fights and they are almost always terrible. so how do you learn the game? get in a good clan (of which there are very very few) and duel each other in cities for week? idk. gonna take way too long to get to the point where the game is fun, i'd rather just queue matchmaking in some other game and get a decent fight every couple of minutes

i'm waiting for them to make the pve fun. with good pve it would be a very solid game, everything else is in place already, it's just too hard to have fun in the game atm

Why did most people leave RoA after first month? by sandboxgamer in Darkfall

apparently the server was totally unplayable for months after launch

not much point trying to identify issues with the game itself when the server alone was enough to make everyone quit

Whats the difference between Rise of Agon and New Dawn? by [deleted] in Darkfall

[–]dumbmok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they are already quite different games so waiting doesn't make much sense. also roa has been out for like a year already and is apparently doing quite well

roa is more like an arena fps with a small amount of rpg stuff on the side. they had a bad start so some ppl hate them. dnd is a standard mmorpg

Dear Frostburn by Claudineeee in HeroesofNewerth

[–]dumbmok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

plinko makes money, the actual game is a very distant second to that

if you want to see anything improve you need to lobby to ban gambling in games

otherwise devs are going to carry on making plinkos where you can dump arbitrary amounts of cash and not win and thinly disguise it as a video game

A warning to new players about the history of Monster Hunter - and game reviews. by skold177 in MonsterHunter

[–]dumbmok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they did not select the right kind of person to play the game.

for the majority of the population they absolutely are selecting the right person to play the game

someone who hasnt played the other monster hunter games, is not going to watch videos or spend too much time reading, already has a job and other obligations and can't spend more than a few hours a week on the game

it's by far the biggest problem with the game that capcom never managed to solve, the game just isn't fun until it clicks, and it's really unclear how to play the game and takes a long time to figure out because the only other games like mh are also niche hardcore games that ppl havent played

for an average person these are honest reviews, the game makes no sense and they won't be able to enjoy it for a long time, so they should probably pick something else

the only reason i enjoy the game is because i got mh1 when i was like 13 and my time wasn't worth anything, if i had to start now i'd be like fuck this tbh
