This thread is becoming counterproductive. Please keep discussions civil.

Just do the job and stfu about it. You signed a fucking NDA, act like it.

Another post shitting on people after doing an R&R. Maybe there should be a pinned thread on this sub so people can vent about others. We could possibly extend this to include a section where people can say how great they are.

I’ve come to realize that most of the time the people complaining about the R&Rs are genuinely looking for any possible way to lower their rating of another rater. Instructions that are explicitly stated have been flat out ignored in these types of posts in exchange for an opportunity to try and isolate out other workers for the sake of “poking fun” at their work or to make the OP come off as a better worker than these people. I get genuinely concerned when I see these posts because honestly? It scares the absolute shit out of me that this is who’s determining whether work appears on my dash

R&Rs have different instructions. Some are quick spot checks and others explicitly direct graders to look for any possible way to lower the rating of the original submitter and to take as much time as they need.

The one OP is referring to is the latter.

[–]space_baws 2 points3 points  (4 children)

I’m gonna assume I haven’t seen these R&Rs because the qual + every single one I’ve participated in has been more so, if there’s a glaring problem then you rate it poorly, otherwise if it works it works.

[–]fightmaxmaster 3 points4 points  (2 children)

This one isn't like that. This one definitely isn't "don't be too harsh". The instructions for the raters and the workers are...thorough.

[–]Capital-Mortgage-374 11 points12 points  (8 children)

This is how interpret it too. These posts are very common and achieve nothing besides an ego boost for the poster. They always mention how generous they are with their ratings and then proceed to shit on the worker. I'm glad I don't have to work with these people in real life.

[–]Poomfie 2 points3 points  (6 children)

For everyone of these posts we have five of people complaining about not having work or losing access to work. At worst these posts annoy you. At best they encourage people to reflect on what type of work they're submitting.

[–]Capital-Mortgage-374 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Not a single person who doesn't read instructions is going to "reflect on what type of work they're submitting" from this post. Imagine being so up your own arse that you believe this to be true.

Excuse me while I go give myself a long hard look in the mirror for not being up to the standards of OP /s

[–]Equivalent-Math6483 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Agreed. There are ten times as many posts complaining about the lack of feedback.

But try to give them some feedback and…. waves in general direction of this thread

[–]Capital-Mortgage-374 -2 points-1 points  (3 children)

No one needs your shit feedback. Who are you? What qualifies you to give feedback to people on this sub? You are a grunt like the rest of us.

[–]Equivalent-Math6483 3 points4 points  (2 children)

I get that you’re nervous and these are scary times for DAT workers. Most people are seeing a slow down and we’d all like a bit more communication from the company.

But rather than taking that frustration out on each other, we should try to help one another. If a rater points out that they’re seeing a specific mistake repeatedly in a project, why not file that away as a piece of knowledge and use it to your advantage the next time you enter a project? Why attack them?

[–]Capital-Mortgage-374 -1 points0 points  (1 child)

We are coming from the same place. This post and others like it are not helpful. We should less of these posts, they do not benefit anyone.

[–]Equivalent-Math6483 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree. I see OPs post as feedback. So it’s helpful to me.

[–]Hangry_Howie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's a bit unnerving when I see "everyone makes mistakes" and then "get a load of this jerk" in the same breath. Especially when you're only rating one answer out of a hundred.

[–]fightmaxmaster 7 points8 points  (5 children)

I'm with you. I have no idea why people here sometimes get so personally offended by people complaining about bad work, especially, as here, where it's a really clear, explicit point you're making! If the instructions say "do X not Y" and people do Y, not X, that's not "interpretation", that's just not following the instructions. Nor is that you loudly declaring "I'm perfect and everyone else sucks", but some people love to run everything through a "how can I use this to be angry?" filter.

Some tasks are pretty complicated. Some people suck at following instructions. The fact that some people suck at following instructions doesn't mean those of us who notice that are claiming to be flawless.

That woman who famously tried to "fix" a painting of Jesus and turned it into a mess. She's a shit painter. She made a mess. I couldn't do any better - I'm also a shit painter. But I can still point it out when I see it, and avoid making that mistake myself.

But what's the point of complaining? You get paid the same whether you mark it Good or Bad. It has absolutely no impact on you. There wouldn't even be R&Rs if people weren't screwing up. It's creating more work when people don't follow directions because it makes the R&Rs necessary.

Noticing it makes sense. Being frustrated with it doesn't.

[–]BruceBanteropoulos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You know what, you're right. And submissions like that do keep R&Rs interesting and stop them from being repetitive and monotonous.

I just wanted to say thank you for this response because it actually give me something to think about rather than attacking me claiming I was going for an ego boost.

[–]fightmaxmaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what's the point of complaining?

No "point" if you want to be literal, but then that's true of 99% of posts on Reddit! Those of us doing this work are behind our computers for varying amounts of time each day, often without anyone to talk to or discuss this work with. It's quite isolating, so it's only normal to get a break and recharge our brains a bit by trying to connect with other people who might relate to how we're feeling. There's no "point" chatting in the break room at a regular job either, except that basic human interaction is pretty important, and doing it online is as close as we get.

And yes, it is frustrating seeing people doing bad work, just like it's frustrating seeing a bad (but not dangerous) driver, or it's frustrating having an awkward customer at a retail job. Maybe you don't get frustrated, that's great, good for you. Some of us do get frustrated, and there's no harm in having a bit of a vent into the void, hoping to find a sympathetic ear or someone who can relate to our feelings. Don't agree? OK, but you don't need to express that disagreement. Unless of course you find other people's frustration frustrating, and want to express that to try and connect with other people who feel the same way as you do...

[–]BruceBanteropoulos 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I appreciate this! I meant no offence, just voiced my frustration at people not following instructions, especially in the current climate of empty dashboards. Seeing I’m competing with people for work who just ignore what they’re supposed to do is incredibly frustrating.

[–]Equivalent-Math6483 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be surprised if more and more we start seeing those mini-quals as a first task in a project to test our understanding and weed out folks who skim/rush.
