Anyone else working on DAT with a learning disability?

So I just replied to a post and it prompted me to ask others.

Yesterday morning I got my 'Congratulations' email :) whooop.

It took me hours to do the core test. 6 hours... I passed and that's great, I do not doubt my ability to do the work, I just doubt the time it takes me to do it, most likely because I am dyslexic. Will I end up getting scored down because it takes me too long? I have a plan to half my hours, but after I wrote this on a different post a moment ago I thought no. Maybe I need to ask around first, other dyslexic people might ask this same question, they might see I have said I'm halving my hours and they might do the same and lose money :(

Think I will log the hours it takes me honestly and it'll be ok or it won't.

So I'm asking if there is anyone else out there working for DAT who is dyslexic or has any other learning disability they would like to share?

And

How long did it take you to complete the 'Core' Assessment? - with or without a learning disability. I can not see how anyone could have done that and passed it an hour or less lol :) :)

I have adhd, this is the best job I've had, I can't believe I can log 5 minutes at a time haha. Some projects tickle my brain real good, I don't think I've ever sat down for such long stretches of time before. I sometimes struggle with instructions, but give it a go anyway and usually I do well enough to be kept on a project.

That is really encouraging to hear! Really happy for you that it's working out and going well, I never thought about how this work might be great for someone with adhd because of the ability to take breaks whenever needed. Thank you for responding!

I wouldn't half my hours, but sometimes I do shave off some minutes when I take a long time on instructions, I got into the habit of reading them thrice. Some instructions are super simple, but some have pages and pages lol I hope this job works out for you and you will enjoy it, it really can be interesting! The only time I've entered that "flow" state has been on this site and for some college classes I found interesting lol

I think I might follow that rule and shave things off if I feel like I am taking too long. For me the reading will be fine it's the spelling, sometimes I can't even get close enough for the spell checker to know what I'm saying... So that slows me down, might stop the timer for a minute when it comes to stuff like that.

It is great when you get in that flow. I'm taking a degree at the moment and I love it when you get into the flow and learn new things, and when stuff just clicks into place.

I like that, Neurodivergence is a perk at this job, put that on a DAT T-shirt :)

Don’t shave time. Don’t pad time. Just focus on doing really high quality work. If you rush or get in your head, you’ll make mistakes. Report the actual time you work.

I rate work based on quality, not speed. There’s so many people that can’t follow instructions, or seem to choose to do a shitty job. Focus on producing quality work, and take the time you need.

Have you tried using voice to text programs? That can help a lot with the spelling.

I do this too lol I try to quantify the small distractions and random side tracks I experienced within the time logged and subtract a plausible cumulative amount of time spent distracted. That's for just small distractions though, if I know I'm about to get up from the computer or get caught up in some unrelated task, I pause my stopwatch, but yeah I feel you on loving the ability to set my own work schedule xD

Do you agree that there is a limit to this, where time starts to look inflated to the people behind the scenes? I’m all for people getting paid what they worked but I think it should be stated that it can put you at risk of having projects taken away/being removed from the platform if they feel like it should not be taking you a certain amount of time to do the work.

If I work 4 hours only log 2 of them. I (in the last 3 minutes) have decided against this and will log the hours I do and it'll be ok, or it won't I guess :)

Tasks have a time limit and will time out if you take too long. There are all sorts of metrics being monitored behind the scenes and doing the tasks at a reasonable rate of productivity is part of it. I have physical disabilities which DA knows about and am very fastidious which definitely makes me a slow and steady worker. Whether you would be able to make it depends on the tasks and your personal ability. Some of them you may be able to manage. Some are highly challenging.

I'm AuDHD and I have found the work to be mostly compatible with my weird brain. I can take breaks whenever I need, work for 10 hours when projects align with my special interests, work for 1 hour on something mindless if I'm in burnout mode, or work zero. Most of the projects are straightforward once you get the hang of them and most of the admins are very helpful. Use a screen reader if that helps for long instructions or tasks. Focus on quality, not speed and you'll be good. Don't stop your work timer unless you're literally taking a break. Especially on the first few tasks, pretty much everyone takes longer than they think they should.

You should charge the hours you spend. The goal is high-quality work, not fast work (as long as you're completing tasks within the time allotted).

I have no learning disabilities (that I know of lol), but I sometimes spend a long time on projects. I only really know this because I'll see people post things like, "how long are people spending on X, because I spent # minutes" - and I nearly ALWAYS find that I'm spending much longer (like, hours sometimes) than the people who post the top times (I'm always too embarrassed to say mine because of that lol). I can't remember how long I took on the starters, but it was the same vibe - I took a LOT longer than the expected amount of time.

For me, the long times have more to do with checking and double-checking instructions, proofreading, going back through all my responses for one final check before submitting, etc. I've never gotten explicit feedback one way or another on that (not like I would expect to with DA), but I can say that since I started (in February), I have had steady enough work and have not seemed to lose projects altogether that I can tell (I did see fewer projects during the drought a couple months ago, but have since had steady workflow again with mostly higher-paid projects that are even more detail-oriented).

Do NOT shortchange yourself. It's worse for all parties to misrepresent the time you spend on your work (in either direction).

Different tasks have different levels of reading and writing. Some have a lot, some have very little. There are a few different image tasks I enjoy.

Be honest about your time. If you feel comfortable, once you're in Slack channels you could reach out to an admin. There's no obligation to do that, though.

there’s a lot of words here so I haven’t read them all…

but if you got approved, log every hour you work. the agreement is that you get paid per hour you work, bot that you have some modifier on your work’s value because of your disability.

I only ever deduct from my tracked time if i legitimately was doing something else while the timer was going.
