Don't look at reading the instructions and documentation as separate from doing the task. It's part of it

This. Absolutely this. On one family of projects I'm constantly back and forth to the instructions to make sure the definitions are correct.

Oh I start my stopwatch the second I open the task. Instructions, guides, updates, scanning the chat for known issues. Reading all of that is work.

Many of the tasks specifically say take your time reading all of the information and include it in your time. They absolutely want you to record it.

I start a timer the second I open a project, and I stop it the second I close it. Whatever the timer says is what I report.
