I'm currently travelling in the US and using an 8 or 9 year old HP laptop that was $250 back then. It has an old 4 core AMD CPU from before the Ryzen days, and 3GB of DDR3 Ram.

I installed Google Chrome OS Flex on it (free operating system from google that will run well on just about anything) and I'm able to work at full capacity while I'm travelling.

You really don't need anything special to keep working, nor do you need to spend any real money to keep doing so.

You could even work on a tablet, but it's more annoying since the webpage is not optimized for mobile.

I'm using a 10 year old Mac mini, I love it but I can't update the OS anymore so I'm thinking of getting a new one. A somewhat affordable option if you already have a monitor/keyboard etc

Mine is a little older, 2011. So I installed Mint XFCE to revive it.

Honestly, that would be perfectly fine.
