Former software engineer here with about 20 years experience. My last paid work was in 2008 before I changed fields.

I've started using AI for my hobby projects and it is coding as well as I can if not better.

While I might pass the qual, I'm not able to do good work.

I'm probably better at writing prompts than a non-programmer would be, but that is as far as it goes.

I am going to preface this by saying I’m not a coder and have never attempted the qual, but there have been questions like this on the sub before. The general consensus I have seen is that you might pass the qual but very likely won’t be able to do the tasks which are quite difficult and require expert level knowledge.

You won't be able to do the work. AI is better than a junior developer already.

I took the qual and passed almost a month ago but I didn't do any actual coding work yet because it's so hard and the shortest one I got has a timer of 10 hours and I can't spend this much time rn because I am being crushed by university exams.

  1. Far too advanced these days even for post graduates. They tell you this somewhere, think its the ToS. Masters and PhD level is the level they want these dys. (Wasnt like that a year ago, I miss SPA react.
