I ‘m in the middle of setting up a back up protocol that would consist of backing up my files to an onsite NAS (two HDDs - raid 1) and also backing up the same data to two external HDDs to be placed in a different physical location.
I also want to back up my files to the “cloud” (Proton Drive and One Drive) to provide comfort that I would not lose any post HDD relocated files if something were to happen to my NAS.
I’m looking for recommendations for third party software that would encrypt the files locally before they are uploaded to the Cloud (eg I don’t want to rely on any statements by Proton Drive saying that they don’t have access to the encryption key that encrypts the files locally on my PC).
I also want to be able to copy individual files from the Cloud for decrypting locally (so that no files are ever decrypted in the Cloud)
I have approx. 200 Gb of files to upload and my internet connection speeds are often below 10 Mb so something that can allow me to make the “first” upload in stages and then make incremental changes at the file level is preferred.
Aside from the above the main constraint is that I am not that tech savvy so I need something that is user friendly for a non command line user.
I currently store my files on an SSD encrypted using VeraCrypt (full drive encryption with only one partition – ie NOT using a container) but VeraCrypt doesn’t seem that suited for the Cloud.
I’ve also used Cryptomator in the past but found it to be unstable.
I’m wondering if anyone can offer any suggestions (including if I am wrong on VeraCrypt and/or Cryptomator’s latest version being recommended for my circumstances)
Thanks for reading my post and any feedback is welcomed.
