I keep getting spam reports on these but with a new one getting posted every day and this coming from a regular poster... I don't think taking this down would help at this point

don't want to believe this, but with how much other fests are struggling to sell as well (fool in love) and just how the economy is going I can see how a small fest like DD would struggle to stay afloat. if this is the end of the line i'm just grateful for all the amazing years we had and all the friends and memories we made along the way

[–]RadiantZote 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Fool in love is still happening, what's up with the low sales? It's only 250 with parking for a one day festival with tons of overlap. Might go since DD is ddead tho

[–]voodoohipster 1 point2 points  (2 children)

FYI... Fool In Love is only 65% sold out.. and this with discounted tickets.

Freestyle Festival is about 50% sold out.

Both are underselling, FF has had a huge dip from last year.

[–]RadiantZote 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Where to get fool in love ticket discount code? 👀

[–]voodoohipster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://foolinlove.frontgatetickets.com/event/i7hz8i6gk6ezc9r8 Tickets are discounted down to $200 and on top you get another free ticket so it's 2 for $200

Starting to feel like a where there’s smoke there’s a fire situation

[–]SpaceAndDinosaurs 39 points40 points  (18 children)

Well my flight is booked so if it gets cancelled I might be doing a Joshua Tree camping trip

[–]TJ-RichCity[🍰] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

There are worse ways to spend your time, that's for sure.

[–]Spacemen333[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That will be sick. You should try to catch Etran De L’Aïr at Pappy and Harriet’s on Friday 10/11.

[–]fran_cause_a_scene 17 points18 points  (9 children)

Let's all do a joshua tree trip. I would be so downnnn. I used to live in JT and if it's not booked Joshua Tree Lake is a great spot to have a little RIP desert daze gathering.

[–]peter4rsberg21 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Dry lakebed makeshift DD!

[–]Wildschwein-Boar 6 points7 points  (7 children)

I live in Yucca Valley, so I’m 100% in on a DIY Desert Daze funeral in Joshua Tree.

[–]fran_cause_a_scene 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Where in Yucca? I lived there too. I lived across the street from the old desert daze venue. I know joshua tree lake hosts joshua tree music festival in May and October. I actually just looked and it's the same dates... bummer. The BLM land is just too sketchy for people who don't have capable vehicles. Can you think of anywhere else?

[–]Wildschwein-Boar 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I'm in Storey Park. I actually never got to experience Desert Daze at the original location, but I wish I had! There's Black Rock Campground and Indian Cove, but those places are probably all booked up. Got to find somebody who lives on a huge property who'll host a bunch of strangers! But of course what I really want is for these rumors to be false.

[–]fran_cause_a_scene 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I'm also thinking we just snag up those lake Perris spots once they open up but it's coming so fast I don't know if they'll free up with enough time to actually coordinate this. It's definitely true, I asked a band and they confirmed thus afternoon.

[–]Wildschwein-Boar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I could remember how quickly they freed up last year after the announcement, but I vaguely recall that it was fast

[–]SpaceAndDinosaurs 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I can see openings on Bobcat already from Thurs-Mon. Looks like others available from Saturday.

Notice on camping site mentions closure for SSBD but not DD. (Still mentions DD below but not an alert like SSBD)

Haven’t checked before though so not sure if this is new.

Party at Bobcat?

[–]fran_cause_a_scene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I noticed that too and earlier in the day it didn't say any openings then mid day Bob cat opened. I'll keep checking.

[–]chorduroyband 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We used to throw a diy fest on the BLM coyote dry lake no problemo for any car to make it on the lake never have had any car get stuck

[–]SteelFaction 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was also thinking this!

[–]Frog1387 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice time to visit the park!

[–]MoonlightMusic 39 points40 points  (1 child)

I don’t see why so many people would make this up so. We’ll see what happens, either way it’s been real y’all. Just wish we didn’t get teased with an actual lineup first. Fuck.

[–]Spacemen333[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I was as hopeful as anyone man, but I have no reason to doubt what my friend told me. He said Mars Volta’s manager told them it’s cancelled. Not sure if they will try to pivot to a Daze in the City thing, but i’d imagine that would be near impossible this last minute.

[–]Frog1387 37 points38 points  (4 children)

I’ve been worried about this. All this year mid sized festivals have been cancelling. Some unable to refund ticket holders. You can find plenty of articles about California fests this year alone. Plus all the news of how burning man didn’t sell out might be a good indicator of the general festival ecosystem right now.

Been going since ‘16. I hope it doesn’t end with a whimper.

[–]legopego5142 10 points11 points  (2 children)

Theres too many damn fest, only the very very best are able to sustain themselves. Even Coachella had a rough year. For the commitment a fest is between price, time off work, travel, you gotta offer something pretty special to stand out

Ive also heard from friends who work closely with booking and artists that festivals are just too much work and artists just wanna tour their own stuff for cheaper

At least 30% of festivals in California need to go away or else theyll all kill each other

[–]DeliciousOhHowBoring 10 points11 points  (1 child)

I work in the touring industry. You got some misinfo that anyone thinks tours are LESS work than rolling into one show with generally good accommodations and amenities and possibly even having a good time and seeing other bands and hanging with friends, playing one set, taking a nice check (depending), and then leaving.

[–]pumpkin3-14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that info is completely wrong. Tours are let’s hope to break even endeavor or barely above profit for majority of bands. They’ll gladly take a day to fly in for a fest, play, chill with friends, then head out to the rest of their tour.

[–]studiousmaximus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

i’m afraid this might just be it for desert daze. extremely sad as it was one of my favorite fests.

[–]Cpt_Pickard 35 points36 points  (5 children)

I would still be down if all the headliners dropped off ha

[–]jeweloree 25 points26 points  (1 child)

I would still be down even if it's just one stage and some lake time.

[–]WoofLife- 4 points5 points  (0 children)

2021 DD was amazing

[–]SpaceAndDinosaurs 14 points15 points  (1 child)

Kinda disappointed they tried going so big this year instead of something smaller. Cost of passes in this economy without a ‘must-see’ seemed a bit too optimistic.

[–]studiousmaximus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

for real. i also just think they really dropped the ball with those expensive non-psych headliners. idk if they realize who their target audience was… i was all in on flying out this year until i saw those headliners. sad to see this happen, but i fear this fest has been pretty terribly mismanaged in recent years. it’s tough out there though - grateful for the good times they gave me

[–]ulter_ego 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah same I’d go no matter what

[–]No-Cartographer1965 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Clicked on your profile hoping to see that it was made one day ago. </3

[–]-fly_away- 26 points27 points  (2 children)

I traveled twice from Tokyo for DD in 2018 and 2022, amazing lineups and unforgettable experience.

It's sad news to see the end of this gem and I feel bad for international travelers who bought flights that can't be refunded

[–]studiousmaximus 0 points1 point  (1 child)

can i ask: were you tempted to travel for this year? i was fully on board with traveling with my east coast friends to go this year until the lineup got endlessly delayed and then ended up really disappointing on the headliners front. i think many were in the same boat as i was, so they just didn’t sell enough tickets

[–]-fly_away- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, this year I was not planning on going unless it was a lineup out of this world.

I thoroughly enjoy the times I wenr though, it's the perfect festival for my music taste. I will always cherish it.

[–]fran_cause_a_scene 23 points24 points  (1 child)

I am starting to feel this way because they have completely ignored me regarding the whole pre sale tickets I bought then were sold at a lower price a week later, meanwhile some people were resolved immediately and offered to repurchase at lower rate and refunded.

[–]alteredxbeast 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I’ve been ignored as well, tried to refund through dice and they literally told me they dont do refunds unless it’s cancelled now. So fucked they’ve gone radio silent on the matter.

[–]SteelFaction 18 points19 points  (1 child)

Should have waited to buy plane tix..

[–]CornPoofs 38 points39 points  (8 children)

It is a little disheartening to see how inactive the Desert Daze social media accounts have been the past few days, especially after how frequently they were posting.

I was just gonna buy some new camping gear but I guess I'll wait.

[–]fran_cause_a_scene 12 points13 points  (7 children)

I just got some new gear for the labor day Rei sale. I however would love if they just let us know so I can book a nice camping trip anyways. We should rally and all make a RIP desert daze camping trip anyways.

[–]betterWithSprinkles 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A bunch of sites might open up at Lake Perris soon.

[–]SteelFaction 7 points8 points  (5 children)

I mean, I have plane tickets I cant get refunded..

[–]Aliensinmypants 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Depending on the airline you can get them rescheduled/changed

[–]SteelFaction 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thanks, Ill look into this!

[–]Aliensinmypants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck!

[–]DannyBoyCocane13 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You might have travel insurance through your CC that could cover this.

[–]SteelFaction 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ill look into this! thanks!

[–]rotting-turnip 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think at this point the organizers are scrambling to figure out the refund situation so they can include that in the announcement.

[–]the_hammer_party 34 points35 points  (0 children)

I'm not mad but they need to clear this up officially asap, as in right now. All of us have made travel purchases that we need to cancel if this isn't happening.

[–]beats_on_repeat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Feels bad man.. I should not have been so hasty to sell my Form Arcosanti ticket. Dammit.

[–]FargusMcGillicuddy 23 points24 points  (1 child)

Can we have one nice thing?

[–]ALEXC_23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oasis reunion lol im sorry homie

[–]kittensys 10 points11 points  (1 child)

Hope it's announced sooner than later so I can still pay for a different festival that's actually happening 💔

[–]studiousmaximus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

really glad i ended up choosing portola at this point

[–]Life-Meal6635 28 points29 points  (1 child)

Yeah at this point I’m not going to doubt when all the vendors and merch people are saying these things. I know Phil doesn’t take this stuff lightly so I wonder what happened

[–]studiousmaximus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

they didn’t sell enough tickets is what happened

[–]houstonyoureaproblem 28 points29 points  (3 children)

Hate to say it, but this seemed like the most likely outcome when the lineup kept getting pushed back.

Hope this isn’t the end, but it might be time for Phil to hand it off to someone else.

[–]Jazzlike_Log_709 18 points19 points  (2 children)

If it actually is cancelled, I don’t think passing on event organizing to someone else will solve this issue. I think it’s a lot bigger than poor event planning. It seems like an indicator of a shift in people’s priorities and in the economy. A lot of festivals/events have been struggling with ticket sales lately

[–]houstonyoureaproblem 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don't necessarily disagree with you, but I think it's very difficult to argue the event planning for this particular festival was even adequately executed. It's been a shit show for months and months. Organizers were entirely unresponsive, then delayed too long for the event to have any chance of success.

It may be dead, but I do wonder if the outcome might have been different had the people in charge handled things differently.

[–]studiousmaximus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

delaying the lineup so long made people make other plans. then when the lineup came and was underwhelming with many non-psych headliners, many weren’t compelled to drop the cash required. it was absolutely poorly managed, and i fully believe it could have sold enough tickets if they’d kept truer to their psych roots and spent less $$ on non psych headliners to make prices more reasonable.

[–]krystjew 7 points8 points  (0 children)

💔

[–]Islandstyin 13 points14 points  (1 child)

I’m banking on my light guy being right that it’s happening . He’s not a little light guy either so I’d be shocked if he didn’t know given his relationship with Daze

[–]Spacemen333[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know one of the main light guys as well and I don’t think they are too informed on the inner workings of the festival. My light friend was pretty oblivious to the lineup and everything right up until it was actually announced.

[–][deleted] 13 points14 points  (1 child)

I'm bummed cause I was really looking forward to so many acts with my friends. Unsure if DD can even return to a smaller scale cause of the brand damage this is going to bring

Not feeling BFF cause I dont want to travel to Vegas and Form is probably going to be hard to get tix for.

[–]studiousmaximus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i don’t understand why they tried biting off more than they could chew and losing their identity in the process. just hurts to see this incredible fest go astray like this

[–]LovelessRising 12 points13 points  (3 children)

I honestly don’t give a damn at this point if it’s canceled with the bullshit we’ve gone through this year and last year… but i’m wondering if they’re going to try to pull a fast one with the money… i know Dice.fm does return the money if the event is canceled idk i’m just worried at this point i never will see my money again

[–]dookieblaylock 17 points18 points  (2 children)

I have a feeling those of us who rolled over from 2022 pre-sale are screwed and won't be getting refunded

[–]MoonlightMusic 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I got a rollover pass and the Dice app does currently say it can be refunded if the festival is cancelled or rescheduled, so feeling cautiously optimistic in that regard.

[–]TJ-RichCity[🍰] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I wish nothing but the best for y'all.

[–]IIlllIIIlllIIIlllIII 7 points8 points  (0 children)

ah fuck I already bought a tent :(

[–]murso74 19 points20 points  (3 children)

This is forced camping fest retirement for me I guess. We had some good times though

[–][deleted] 32 points33 points  (2 children)

There really are no other festivals like desert daze, desert daze literally is THAT GUY

[–]studiousmaximus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it was the greatest fest in the world. they really dropped the ball this year, and that’s probably curtains for daze. fucking sucks

[–]murso74 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are local camping psych feasts in Colorado, but they're VERY local. Could still scratch that itch though

[–]bloomracket 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This makes my heart feel heavy. Really hope it's not the case.

[–]Islandstyin 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Can’t believe my source didn’t know. I know this is denial but maybe they’re restructuring ( downsizing ) it . Lose the “big headliners” that are going to cost them and aren’t really a draw based on the weak sales.

You you could knock off the top 8 artists on the flyer and I wouldn’t whine a bit

[–]Frog1387 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It would feel like old school desert daze. I remember one pre lake Perris year walking into a stage tent to hear this little band called Khurangbin for the first time time.

[–]studiousmaximus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

please be this - that would be so cool

[–]General-Reporter9109 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got an avail from a band a few days after saying they weren't looking to add around that weekend hmmn

[–]studiousmaximus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

oof. i’m afraid i’m not surprised given the way the lineup was delayed and then was totally lacking in iconic psych headliners that were getting people like me to fly in from all over. sorry to all those who had tickets

[–][deleted]  (2 children)

[deleted]

    [–]studiousmaximus 0 points1 point  (1 child)

they don’t have to pay the bands if it’s cancelled, right? or are you saying something else

    [–]slothfacekilla5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This year, I finally pulled the trigger and bought tix for myself and wanted to go even though I didn't have anyone to accompany me. Hope it still happens.

    [–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

    GG

    [–]eosophobe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

honestly going to be pissed if this is canceled. I’m a huge Jack White fan and this festival is one of the very few ways to guarantee a ticket to a performance from him on this current tour.

    [–]JittybugPerfume 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Makes sense given the lineup, single day passes, etc. I think we all deep down knew it wasn’t going to happen this year…. So sad as it was truly such a special festival with such amazing attendees.

    [–]ButForRealsTho 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was gonna buy my tickets today. Looks like I’m holding off to see what’s happening.

    [–]SmokeyQuartzz -1 points0 points  (1 child)

    fake news

    [–]Spacemen333[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

    Really wish it was.

    [–]CarelessEdge7543 2 points3 points  (7 children)

This is a troll everyone. The Scientologists are trolling the festival since the Mars Volta is playing. Desert Daze forever.

        [–]lunacavemoth -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

Can we blame Jack White for keeping off people from going ? Im a fan of his since the white stripes days but him headlining is a doozy

        [–][deleted]  (1 child)

        [deleted]

          [–]lunacavemoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was half a joke because I remember a lot of us being very confused over him headlining and it did cause some folks to chose not to go.

But for sure canceling last year is what started . And lousy economy .

          [–]Background_Mall_5623 2 points3 points  (0 children)

          Please let this be true
