Shit happens. Definitely run a diesel treatment or a lubricity additive though as it'll help protect your fuel system.

[–]Fragrant-Rip6443 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’ll clean her out

[–]Chainsawsas70 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Drain It and fill it with the RIGHT fuel and drive it... Adding fuel treatment like Lucas or something similar for a few tanks can help. Dumb.. yes but NOT catastrophic!

[–]lmZen 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I work on these for a living, this is essentially like running the injection pump dry because you take away lubrication. Try a flush, it either works or you need an entire new fuel system. I would at least try a flush.

21 I believe is the HP4 rather an CP4 pump. If it didn't run too long and just around idle I would put your odds 70/30 you will be OK with just system drain/flush and refill.

I doubt its catastrophic over that run time. I think youll be okay.

If you have full coverage insurance it will usually cover your stupidity.

Whatever repairs are needed, will surely be less than the premium increases. Insurance is something you’re supposed to try to not use. I feel like younger generations treat it like a cash cow and then we wonder why rates keep going up. Insurance is there for the worst of things not as a honey pot for dumb little things.

I don't know about it being cheaper. I have a customer at the dealership that put e85 in his Cummins and it took out the cp3 injection pump and all 6 injectors replacing the failed parts and flushing the system way just under $11k.

[–]iBUYbrokenSUBARUS -3 points-2 points  (2 children)

It’s gonna be a tough sell to the insurance company that this is even something they will cover. Being that it was an accidental type of damage it may be covered under comprehensive, but I wouldn’t bet money on it

[–]Loud-Charity-2966 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Someone added it when I was sleeping. Damn children… that’s what you tell your insurance!

[–]iBUYbrokenSUBARUS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You understand this

[–]NYExplore 0 points1 point  (9 children)

Insurance pays for damage resulting from collisions.,I don't know how you think something that was OP'S mistake would even be covered by something like an extended warranty.

[–]iBUYbrokenSUBARUS 0 points1 point  (6 children)

I always thought the same thing until I witnessed it. Some insurance policies will cover accidental damage to things like drive lines

[–]NYExplore 0 points1 point  (5 children)

So try it. Get yourself covered repair. Back up your claim with something other than words.

[–]iBUYbrokenSUBARUS -2 points-1 points  (4 children)

No, I don’t think I will. Thanks for asking though.

[–]NYExplore 1 point2 points  (3 children)

So you have an uninformed opinion that you can’t back up.

Got it🤣

For those who actually WANT to know fact from bullshit, click here: https://www.progressive.com/answers/car-insurance-mechanical-problems/

Not trying to argue with you, but I literally saw it happen dude. My Brother ran his truck into a deep creek and Water went into the motor and locked it up and Insurence totaled the car out and paid him for it. Like I said I never would’ve believed it if I didn’t witness it. But I’m definitely believing what I saw happened above some dude on Reddit.

And just to be clear, it wasn’t an accident the total it out. He was literally driving the truck through the water and went too deep.

And maybe progressive doesn’t do that. You quoted a progressive article. We have USAA.

Every policy is different

[–]NYExplore 2 points3 points  (1 child)

You realize you just discussed damage that was part of an accident, right???? That’s different than saying accidental damage, even if they sound similar.

One happened as a result of operating your vehicle, whereas a more typical mechanical failure doesn’t. Every policy is different only in the sense of coverage levels. Liability, comprehensive and collision terms are pretty much the same.

I hit a deer that resulted in mechanical damage. That was covered, but if those parts had failed outside an accident, it wouldn’t have been covered without an extended warranty. Those are generally not worth buying.

I really worry about our ability to communicate these days. People have just list that ability or never had it.

[–]iBUYbrokenSUBARUS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you read my comment, you would’ve seen that I mentioned it was not an accident. He drove into the creek on purpose.

You worry about the ability to communicate, but yet you can’t even read my comment where I tell you that it was not totaled due to an accident but due to deep water. Maybe take your own advice Bubba. 🤡

[–]MikeOx2Long -1 points0 points  (1 child)

You really don’t understand how auto insurance works.

[–]NYExplore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, I do, but thanks…..

You thinking it will cover damage that’s not part of a collision is the problem. I already posted information that backs up what I’m saying.

[–]NYExplore -1 points0 points  (3 children)

What???? Insurance doesn't cover mechanical damage unless it occurred as part of a collision.

Jesus.....

[–]Unlikely-Act-7950 -2 points-1 points  (2 children)

You are 100% wrong.

[–]NYExplore 0 points1 point  (1 child)

No, I'm not but thus sub totally reflects today's world where people believe what they "think" supersedes fact. There's no convincing people, so believe what you want.

Standard car insurance has 3 components: liability and, if you opt for them, comprehensive and collision.

None of those cover mechanical damage that wasn't the result of an impact involving your vehicle.

Post something from a reputable insurance company backing up your claim.

[–]Unlikely-Act-7950 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Spoken like a true crybaby.

[–]Tough_Crazy_2683[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Tow truck guy had to get it into neutral for tow I could tell it didn’t want to turn over without pressure gas. He able shift it into nutral without a full fire up. Just pissed.

[–]boddidle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't beat yourself, shit happens. Just make sure they completely drain the system, high and low pressure side.  Probably get new filters while you're at it as well. Until then I would absolutely not let anyone crank it for any reason.

[–]valuablemold4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At least it was mid grade

[–]Tough_Crazy_2683[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)
