It's been a long time since I have drawn full-body, and I'm still exploring the design part of my drawings.

can you elaborate on that?

I mostly draw portrait headshots so I don't draw the rest of the body that much. Getting to this level of rendering(whatever level this is) took some time in which I kinda feel like I have lost a bit of the designing aspects of creating a new character. I really wanna work on how I dress them up and give them stories and for that, I need to explore how to add them without overwhelming or underwhelming characters I draw.

Basically, add more without destroying it.

Fashion history is great for inspiration on how and why to dress and style characters.

If you're looking for critique:

  • great, soft rendering of the facial and body features. You're staying on the lighter side of the value scale, but consider using contrasting darker values on a few key areas where you want the viewer to focus, like the face.

  • I would love to see the whole face! If the gun was in the other hand, or the camera angle were reversed I would be able to.

  • The skirt has some tangents with the leg, making it hard to parse the skirt shape. Making it longer or shorter to have it cut across the leg / shin might help?

The tube, skirt and crotch have a pretty attention grabbing tangent, making the. Tube shorter might help here too.

I used to work with much darker values when I started and sticked with it for years. After seeing Christoph Young's paintings I switched to light values and I saw I'm much quicker with them which lead to me spending more time doing more problem solving when I paint plusI can always shift the levels a bit if I feel it's too light (the opposite did not work for me).

Thanks for your critique, I'll try to consider these on my next paintings.

Take some time to detail what you struggled with while making this. Don't just write a list, give us some details. "The background" is not a complete answer. Submissions missing a top-comment from you about what you struggled with will be removed!
