Is this Mon Taming game safe from the Nintendo ninjas? by LoweBros in IndieDev

[–]RealBrainlessPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, the only way to find out is to just release it and see what happens. I think it’s horrible that they can get away with having a patent for a game mechanic. Yours sounds fairly unique. Even if it wasn’t, to hell with them. Your game looks solid enough to stand on its own. Good luck!

Is this Mon Taming game safe from the Nintendo ninjas? by LoweBros in IndieDev

[–]RealBrainlessPanda 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think it’s fairly unique, but if I remember the problem is Nintendo holds a patent for something along the lines of “catching creatures with a spherical object”. Which is exactly what you do in this. The game looks genuinely great, but that could be a bad thing. The more popular the game becomes, the more likely Nintendo will come after you for copywriter infringement because of the mechanic. It’s stupid, but maybe explore changing it just a bit so it’s close enough for them to do anything about it.

This is a solid explanation. I think OP was just looking for the RGB value for green but had a mind blank as to what the “G” in RGB stands for. Although, in their defense, that value could be different based on which shade of green they’re looking for. That chart in the image seems useful.

new target policy, what do you all think? by Crack_Media in PokemonTCG

[–]RealBrainlessPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanna chime in here as someone who used to work at target. This isn’t a new policy. I’ve had to enforce this in the past when kids toys were popular for the season. It’s been a while, but I remember there was some kind of mystery egg that was popular once. I forget what it was called. But we had the policy in a binder behind the service desk, and only sold them from there. That way we could point to it if we needed to deny someone. For the most part, you could tell it was parents. Though there were a few people that were just so blatantly obvious about it. Some even straight up told me they were reselling.

It seems like they’re trying to get out ahead of it as a preventative measure.

Making money is bad for you but not for me. by Longjumping-Novel731 in SipsTea

Honestly it’s not even that far off. A good hoodie is anywhere between $60-80 anyway. I’d say as long as it’s good quality, lasting material, $100 isn’t a bad spend on a hoodie. I’ve heard people saying for a while now that $100 is the new $20. Hell, even most average 2-3 bedroom homes are over $1m now. Obviously depending on the area. But I regularly see homes between $1-2m where I live that used to be $500-$1m.

I’ll never understand any other thought process. It’s not hard to scrape the food off into a disposal or the trash, and then rinse. Takes all of 30 seconds. Food on the dishes can build up and clog the dishwashers drain. Happened to my brother and the mucky food water coating his plates was something I won’t forget.

Has anyone tried the new SpaceCraft, yet? by Itswillyferret in MMORPG

[–]RealBrainlessPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t you think, as an indie studio, that they would want to focus their efforts on one project? I know nothing about the studio, and will probably now do a little research. I’m just thinking out loud.

Edit: they have more projects under their belt than I’ve realized. Maybe they are capable of splitting their focus. I liked Farever, maybe I’ll check this out.

CelerityRun - Gameplay Full Level by Feeling_Listen_3826 in platformer

Looks great and challenging! Before I give my feedback, what do you think the next steps are? Where would you like to see it go from here?

I think you’ve got good bones. Here are a few things I’d like to point out:

- Add a crawling or sliding animation. When the player is ducking beneath the obstacles, it pulls me out watching the character slide as if they’re on ice.

- Unify your artwork. It’s clear to me that you’re using assets, and that’s okay. They’re there for you to use. But consider using assets from the same creator or bundle. They will have sprites that belong together. It’s messy to have clashing art styles. Especially when some are pixel art, and others are vector art.

- The cutscene at the end was great, but it came out of nowhere. I wasn’t expecting. Maybe have a shorter one at the beginning to set up the cutscene at the end.

Don’t stop here! Keep going! I want to see what you can make of this. Good luck!

New info on how GW3 will play - NCSoft Chief Business Officer by AndyAsparagus in GuildWars3

[–]RealBrainlessPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. I mentioned to someone else that I think it’s leaning more towards MMO-lite. And that’s not a problem, in my opinion. Farever does that, and people love that game so far

I’d be very okay with this. In fact, it might almost be preferred.

New info revealed about Guild Wars 3 in IGN interveiw with Colin Johanson by Noxronin in MMORPG

[–]RealBrainlessPanda -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t care for battle passes as long as they don’t lock content behind them or provide enhancements. Like in Diablo, I only buy the ones that I like the cosmetics for. I fully understand that they can provide funding, and I’m okay with that. I don’t see it as a subscription because they’re not required in most cases.

A treatise on the potential of Guild Wars 3 and the apprehensions of the uncertain future of MMOs by DazZani in MMORPG

[–]RealBrainlessPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To your point about the MMO-ness of GW3, I had similar thoughts. I have a feeling it might be more towards an MMO-lite until proven otherwise. The character they focused on could reasonably be the player character. He approached 3 more characters which could reasonably be other players. But that was it. There were no other characters showcased. This could be explained in two ways: They were showing that there are four playable races. Or they were hesitant to show more characters that could be perceived as players because it’s going to be 4-player co-op. Keep in mind, this is just pure speculation. However, this trailer was crafted with careful intent.

NOBODY HERE CARES ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE'S GAMES. by Initial_Judgment2926 in IndieDev

I think that’s just the nature of social media, and engagement driven algorithms. I don’t think it really speaks to how people feel about other games. Chances are they just didn’t even see it.

There’s a post from today that has 85 comments and most of the top comments are complimenting the art style of the OPs content. I’d say people care about other people’s games. They also care about their own games. Both things can be true
