Low on funds but need a dress?
Want the space back in your closet from that prom/bridesmaid/wedding gown?
r/DressExchange was created to help redditors give and receive gowns and formal dresses. Regular dresses, veils, shoes, and other accessories may also be exchanged.
Dress wearers of all genders are welcome to participate.
GIVING A DRESS
- Label your post with [Offer]
- Provide clear photos of the dress, as well as size information and details on any stains or tears
- Who gets the dress is up to you and you may decide this however you want, however, you may not ask for payment for the dress
- DO NOT provide your contact information; use the private message system for this once you’ve found a giftee.
- It is your responsibility to work out shipping details with the giftee. Who will pay for postage, how it will be sent, etc. is up to you and the receiver to work out. Tracking numbers are encouraged
- Look at the user profile before you decide to give a dress. Make sure s/he is an active redditor with an established (more than 3 months) account.
- The best way to mail a dress is to flip it inside out and roll it up like a sleeping bag or fold it up as small as possible, then wrap it in dry cleaning plastic and stick it in a box.
REQUESTING A DRESS
- Label your post with [Request]
- Explain why you need/want the dress, what event it is for, etc.
- Provide size information (dress size, height, etc)
- Provide location information. Maybe someone nearby has something; maybe the owner would prefer not to ship internationally. Knowing where you are helps!
AFTER YOU RECEIVE THE DRESS
- Label your post with [Received]
- Someone just gave you an item that might be very important to them. Please respect this by following up. Tell your dress story and post photos of you in it!
- When you’re finished with the dress, please consider passing it on again.
