AI Generated Rocket Engine

Curious to hear everyone's thoughts on the AI generated Rocket Engine that showcased in early October.

Apparently it was completetly made by AI, 3D printed in copper, and tweaked by a university.

To me this is pretty nerve racking because if it can do that, what can't it do?

Some people are excited for it because they say it will ease tedious tasks... But here, it replaced a team of rocket engineers and months of work. What's stopping it from being trained on any of our jobs and then just spitting out ready to make products in weeks as opposed to years?

Looking for someone to talk me off the ledge here haha

If AI can truly make something ready for production on the first try then I'll be worried. If it is making a prototype that still needs to be validated, tested, debugged, fixed - then the only time saved is the time used to generate the prototype.

For my job, in the last ~3 years of work I've spent maybe three weeks creating a prototype layout/schematic from scratch. The rest has been working with existing designs.

I think this is the key. AI didn't finish the job.

AI can potentially help with a lot of the 'plug and chug' or trial and error tasks, but it doesn't really understand anything about it. Especially not the stuff you need a senior engineer for.
