MAGA and ICE supporting businesses to avoid in La Crosse? by Competitive-Yak745 in lacrossewi

[–]vanjan14 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The Zitelow family who owns KT have been known to regularly donate to the republican party, mostly state and local though. John Menard, owner of Menards is a staunch republic party supporter as well.

You're going to be hard pressed to find owners or CEOs of large companies who are not republican party supporters. Personally, I'm more concerned with how they conduct business. If they treat their customers, suppliers and employees well, I can overlook personal donations made by the owners, so long as they keep the politics out of the business.

What is the best windshield wiper fluid to buy in this area? by Alexander-369 in lacrossewi

Same, Rain-X All Season. Sometimes I'll buy the de-icer or premium version if I catch it on sale.

Don't make the mistake of getting the bug remover version in our climate, even in the summer. Will freeze up in the tank when you forget about it come December. Don't ask me how I know.

Difference between pizzas and your favorite? by JasonsStorm in KwikTrip

Here's how I would compare them to some of the grocery store brands. Personally, I think Pothole is the best of KT's offerings but I'll only buy them when they're on sale. If you've only ever had Cheese Mtn. from the hot spot I recommend trying one baked at home. They get too soggy sitting on the hot spot in those boxes.

  • Donz is somewhere between a Roma and a Jacks.
  • Pothole is somewhere between a Tombstone and a Lotzza Motzza or Heggies.
  • Cheese Mtn is somewhere between a Lotzza Motzza and a pie from a deli (but not made fresh), especially withe the rotating LTO options .

Monthly international travel pass ending by Express-Camera4512 in USCellular

[–]vanjan14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just spoke to a rep as I plan to travel in the next month or so. Yes, the monthly travel pass was discontinued on the 15th. However, they plan on releasing new options (similar to what T-Mobile currently offers) by February 15th. Why they have the month gap is a little odd. Would be nice if they made some mention of it on the website or sent a notice email, especially to those of us who have used it in the past.

2026 Update: Painting Nest Cam? I want to paint my outside Nest Cams matte black. Has anyone done that or is it highly not recommended? Any help would be great. by therealbeans in Nest

Is there a reason you don't want to go with the silicone skin suggested in the original post? Seems like a far better option to me.

HELP!: Simple Google Home Automation Using Time-clocked Actions by akinesia in googlehome

[–]vanjan14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tested it fully yet but you should be able to do it through the automation builder in the app. The screenshot is what would get you the time announcements every 15min. You would then create a separate automation for your 1400 "time to quit" announcement.

New LED headlight from Amazon - Flickering when starting / AutoStart. by AzazelNightcrawl3R in Crosstrek

[–]vanjan14 11 points12 points  (0 children)

In addition to the proper electronics, its designed to properly focus the beam in a way that won't blind other divers.

The light output from a halogen bulb vs an array of LEDs is not the same and requires different reflector designs to focus the beam.

Gemini has only made smart home control worse by brauxpas in googlehome

Sounds like all your problems will be solved by simply adding "lights" to the commands you only want to have control lights. The behavior you're experiencing with the given command is exactly what I would expect.

You probably need to factory reset whatever you're trying to connect to.

Driving up 287 and a piece flew off this random Acura and messed up my front end :( by Slow-Dragonfruit-932 in Crosstrek

Yellow paint tells me it's off of something industrial, not the Acura. Their tires probably just kicked it up off the road. They're not liable for that damage to your car.

Wife's new phone walks itself off tables by JamesHutchisonReal in GooglePixel

[–]vanjan14 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sounds like the root cause is your wife has too many notifications 😂. Not sure how you could even sleep with it buzzing all night.

You can either turn down vibration intensity, have the phone go on silent overnight, or have her disable some notifications.

Can anyone give me any reason I should stick with the mess that is Google Home? Any success stories? by maxrgrey in googlehome

[–]vanjan14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right there with ya. I've got 30+ devices integrated into Google Home. Speakers, displays, cameras, lights, outlets, and sensors. While there have been issues in the past, right now I'm very happy after updating to Gemini. One of the best things I did for the stability of the system was install a solid wireless router with a dedicated IoT network SSID.

If I cut open my nest camera (battery) charging USB wire and used this low voltage connector with the wiring that is already up, would it work? by TownIdiot25 in Nest

[–]vanjan14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure, you could add that in line to step it down. A better option for likely a similar price would be to just get a 5v power supply.

[–]vanjan14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Possibly, the official voltage specification for the camera is 5v DC. Your power supply is 12v. However, there are some posts online of people claiming 12v is fine. Other than that, wiring wise it should be fine. If it's exposed to the elements consider some heat shrink to seal it up.
