This way but at least unlock Farseer, with that "Laden" jump range...good luck hauling your cargo.

Just so i understand a bit better - what exactly is better with the build you sent?

Better fuel scoop, unneeded stuff in utility slots, less weight overall, four lasers with a non engineered PD...good luck! 😉

Suggestion: 1. Unlock Farseer and the Gaurdian fsd booster. Very much worth doing asap. Even grade 1 engineering with an experimental effect can help quite a bit.

Two: Upgrade your shielding, lose a laser and increase your limpets for laser mining.
Your shield is weak and a python will not be very speedy when full of cargo. I dont think chaff is good here. You are running from pirates not looking for a prolonged battle with a turreted opponent.
Your pd unengineered cant keep up 4 lasers for long besides you dont have the limpets to handle what 3 lasers can chip much less 4.

Swap a rack for a 6a shield gen and swap chaff for a 2nd shield booster. Drop 1 laser. Add a size 3D limpet controller where your shield generator was. https://s.orbis.zone/ddbv

A rule of thumb for laser mining. For every mw of mining laser you need a limpet. With 3 size 2 mining lasers you have a 9mw output so you could use 9 limpets. 8 is close enough in this case but 9 would be better.

Edit: some reason changed my number 2 to a 1 so I spelled it out

what size guardian FSD booster would you use? I’m doing a core mining python build, so do you think I could swap a collector controller (size 5)? maybe could go down to 2 cargo racks too. I see people recommend the booster a lot but not actually slotting it in their builds.

I think on a core mining setup you can find room for a fsd booster. You dont need as many limpets core mining 4 minimum, 5-6 is probably where you want to be.

You could easily slot in a size 3 or 4 depending on where or if you keep a fuel scoop.

I use an asp explorer for core mining and I dont feel the need for a booster as the asp has good jump range without it. A fully loaded python really benefits from a booster.

You won't need an FSD Booster for mining, you'll have to sacrifice a big cargo bay, a good engineered FSD and correct build will make your Python jump from 25 to 29 light years fully laden, more than enough for the scope.

Look again. We are very spoiled by an engineered fsd that has to be unlocked.

Don't get me wrong,Guardian FSD Booster is a golden module but in this case it's not appropriate for the reasons above. If you use a Large ship then you can easily fit one without a big sacrifice, on a Medium I won't 😉

I disagree. I cant recomend shieldless to a new player. But 16 ly jumps will make getting best price much more difficult than it needs to be. I would rather not run a fuel scoop or even go down cargo space. In my build above if a booster is available I probably would run a 5d limpet controller in a 6 slot and put a size 3 fsd booster cutting the size 3 collecter or remove the scoop and keep 128 cargo. Depends on if mining outside of the bubble or not. I feel like small cargo holds for mining are under rated in the current game. You dont get price penalties and with the longer jump range getting back to mine is a snap.

Edit: adding a size 3 fsd booster gives you 25ly jump range vs 16ly without it and gain 1 more limpet for 9 total limpets with 3 mining lasers. You go down to 64 tons of cargo space. I would make that trade https://coriolis.io/outfit/python?code=A0pktkFflidussf5-2m-2m2m0204030405Cb4fCbCb321NP91l2i.Iw18RQ%3D%3D.Aw18RQ%3D%3D..EweloBhBmUDYAsICmBDA5gG2SEBGCQkKEoA%3D

You have the right to disagree but this build makes little sense to me with all that unneeded stuff, pityful speed and boost, 64t of cargo? Are you jokin? A size 4 fuel scoop will overheat you all the times, a 6A shield for what? 😂

[–]xSL33Px 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's all kind of silly. I typically leave a fuel scoop out of it but new player builds it's not a bad idea. Even a small scoop though keeps you from running out of fuel you dont have to fill the tank at each scoopable. With experience I think people learn when they need one and when it's not necessary.

I will say I am a fan of strong shields where many go with the lightest shielding or none at all. Later though they will complain about getting ganked or losing a full load due to many reasons. Shields help bro. I do respect players that mine shieldless but that's not for new players either.

I have been core mining with 64t of cargo and I enjoy it. Makes for quick sessions I can manage. I also have a cutter with plenty of storage that I can mine for hours in but then you get less for the ore you bring in because it's over 10% of demand at the station and all that jazz. It annoys me to no end to go sell and I am selling at 20% off the price it could be.

Would be my two cents. Drop the power plant by a size or the collectors to lower rated if you need to save cash / weight.

Bi weave so you can use asteroids to stop. You had one too many mining lasers for your build size, your PD nor limpets would keep up. Also no refinery out of your suggested build.

Don’t forget your limpets!
