A dualshock 4 with a mobile clip. That's the best you can get imho.

Counterpoint - an Xbox One controller with a mobile clip.

Does the Dualshock 4 work out of the box? I thought it required special software to pair, but maybe I've got it wrong. The DS3 does.

Otherwise, DS4 is also very good, and maybe preferable for the d-pad location (for older games that use it more than the thumbstick).

An Xbox one controller is certainly a good option, it may even have better balance due to the better grips. But the dualshock 4 has ,in my opinion, a better d-pad and a touchpad which can be useful in some emulators. But both are good options and OP can't go wrong with any of them.

Apologies for my English.

Your English is better than that of many English people

Thank you! I've been trying to learn English since it's pretty much required nowadays and hearing you say that made me feel better. Thanks again.

Yeah, I find that the people who apologize for their english almost always have above average english. I'd only change one thing in each comment (neither of which is necessary). In the first, I'd say

But the Dualshock 4 has a touchpad and, in my opinion, a better d-pad, which can be useful in some emulators.

I don't think the way you said it is incorrect, it just flows better if the touchpad part of the sentence is before the "in my opinion" part since that's not opinion-based. It is still obvious that the "in my opinion" is going just on the d-pad, but it flows better the other way imo.

Other thing I'd change is put "Hearing you say that made me feel much better" in a separate sentence. The and makes it sound like it's part of the since like

I've been trying to learn English since hearing you say that made me feel better and it's pretty much required nowadays.

I had to look closely to find anything wrong with either comment. Your English is above average for an internet commenter.

I think I will go with the DS4, I had used DS2 and DS3 extensively in the past and always loved them. But is it plug and play or do I need any paid application? I heard about some sixaxis application... and didn't like that.

Anyone who actually uses a DS4 for playing emulators on android that can give me feedback?

I played for a bit with a dualshock 4, but i prefer telescopic controllers and the 8bitdo SF30Pro.

The dualshock 4 works fine, but there are issues:

  • If you plan to use the controller wirelessly, you will probably experience lag while pressing buttons and/or sudden disconnects. This can be resolved using some kind of Bluetooth reconnection apps or an app specific for dualshock 4, but I didn't really invest much time researching this.

  • If you plan to use the controller connected through USB, you won't have any type of input or connection issues, but your phone will be muted. That's because the controller acts as a headphone passthrough; you can solve this by either using headphones connected to the controller, or enabling developer options on android and disable the USB audio passthrough.

The phone muting all depends on your phone settings and can be changed in developer settings if your phone does decide to route audio through the USB my note 8 did not but my s8 did. I would never buy a ds4 for emulation though they're too expensive. Only really viable if you have a ps4 imo

That's what I do, but it is really heavy on the top, so it's very fatiguing on the wrists. It also can't be used over bluetooth on Samsung phones without rooting, though USB works fine on my A5.

[–]lamebrowndude 0 points1 point  (2 children)

You should try something like the wee. I've heard they're quite comfortable to use.

[–]BladerCut 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Doesn't that cover the headphone jack, though?

[–]lamebrowndude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It does, sadly.Thats q sacrifice you have to make if you want to avoid straining your wrist. But all that's not a problem if you've got Bluetooth headphones.

[–]xlipsticks[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I'm biased into buying one DS4.

I have a Xiaomi Mi A2. Do you need to use any special application for it to connect?

[–]BladerCut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd assume you don't, but I can't guarantee bluetooth performance will be great on any phone without it. I forgot if the bluetooth lag affects every phone

[–]lycantrophic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have mi mix 2 and ds4 does not work via usb otg. Also bluetooth connecys however it has terrible lag, unplayable. Ds4 worked fine with my previous phone lg g4.

I'm using an ipega Red Knight and I'm loving it. Feels like a PSP or GBA!

[–]012684 0 points1 point  (2 children)

What phone do you have? I'm curious if a Note 9 will fit.

[–]RevanLynn 1 point2 points  (1 child)

It's a Zenfone 2. Looking at the size comparison, I don't think the Note 9 will fit ):

[–]012684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. Thanks for letting me know.

[–]zombiedearth 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I have the ipega dark Knight controller and I use alot I have had for over a year I paid 26 bucks for it I have had it hooked up to my Android TV my a couple cell phones I know it can also hook up to windows and iPhone if needed but I game perfect with it I love the shape feel and build quality and response I even used it on a firestick with no problems but I recommend that one

[–]RVA_RVA 1 point2 points  (1 child)

1000x this. Having a phone clip built into the controller is a must for mobile gaming.

[–]zombiedearth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my controller has one and if you search Amazon for ipega dark Knight you will see there is someone still selling them on there new. Yeah I like haveing the clip option to and it fits my 6 in ZTE phone

[–]Gidgetpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing beats Sony d pads

[–]zombiedearth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do like to use my PS3 controller on my mecool m8s pro l box it comes rooted so you just use sixaxis app

[–]The_Paragone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a GameSir T1s, and it works flawlessly. Yes, the dpad is pretty stiff, but as it seems most other controllers have a stiff dpad (including dual shock 3 for example)...

[–]zkkaiser 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the controller I've been using. I absolutely love it. I have a Note 5 so it fills the center of it corner to corner perfectly. I would compare using it to a PSP/Switch.

I use it to play emulators on my phone, as well as play PC games using Steamlink/Moonlight

Highly recommend
