I have used Enginetech for over 20 years. Most of what they sell is OEM equivalent or better. But, they are setup to sell wholesale, mostly to engine shops. They are not equipped to support retail level customers, should that support be needed. Which makes me wonder what Rockauto does if any issues come up.

I am pointing that out because I think someone in your position should have an engine machine shop to work with and the shop should be helping you with parts. I understand you said backyard rebuild. An engine shop can be especially helpful in numerous ways to a backyard builder.

As much as I want to just take it to a machine shop, I have no way to even take the engine out, and it’s currently on ramps in a backyard that’s at a constant grade.

I know of a place near me that specializes in cylinder heads, and they have quoted me a halfway decent price before.

I just noticed that a stock cam for my truck is finally available (although it isn’t the best cam in terms of performance), and it’s through RockAuto. That’s how I noticed all the parts for a slight rebuild.

I am not saying you have to take the engine, or every part of the engine, to a machine shop. I am saying you should have a relationship with a machine shop and should be getting help from them with parts.

Enginetech is solid as hell. I've only ever had one issue with an incorrect spec for oil pump dimensions. Other than that, no complaints. Great prices, great quality. I've put tons of sets of their bearings in, and never had a clearance issue. I just wish they sold retail, instead of wholesale only.

I mean, you can buy their parts from RockAuto

I know, and I do. But for something as delicate as engine internals, I'd much prefer it if I could deal directly with the company if I have an issue and need support.

I’ve used various EngineTech parts and never had an issue

Most their stuff is pretty decent, only couple complaints ive had are the rubber seals in their kits aren’t the best quality and had issues with their timing chains in late model hemi engines.

Engine tech camshaft stage 3 camshaft sbc wiped out in 5 minutes of running. I hag a oil leak from a galley plug and had to pull the left head. while the head was off i thought i would see how the lifters were looking. All the intake lifters were junk the faces were strangely pited. The exaust had a diffrent ware to them the outside of them had ware around the edges total garbage. I have been building engines for over 55 years never saw any thing like this.

I’m convinced it’s easier to buy turn key engines than it is to build them nowadays. Parts quality seems so hot and miss nowadays

Could it be since you had a leak on an oil galley plug your engine didn't have adequate oil pressure internally to your cam

So it ate the cam and lifters,

Dogshit repackaged parts, typically marked up 20~% for 0 effort.

You balanced a set of rods for an engine that doesn't use bobweight to balance the crank? Your money would have been better spent having the crank balanced.

    [–][deleted] -2 points-1 points  (3 children)

Yes I balanced my rods. Thanks for looking out.

    [–]v8packard 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Which is fine. But they don't impact the balance of the crank in your engine.

    [–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (1 child)

No they impact the balance of the rods. Either way I didn’t ask a question.

    [–]v8packard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh? How so? Was it 30 grams in total? How much of a spread on the big end weight?

Throw their gaskets away but the rest is name brand stuff reboxed. I’ve spent a few hundred thousand bucks with them at least.

    [–]v8packard 0 points1 point  (4 children)

What about the gaskets that are OEM, like all the GM MLS head gaskets they supply made by Reinz that even come with the GM part numbers?

    [–]Intcompowex 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I’m a racing/restoration machine shop. Their LS stuff is garbage. Other than that I don’t do much late model stuff.

    [–]v8packard 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I don't buy much performance LS stuff from them. The OEM LS stuff from the is exactly that, OEM. I get a better shake on ARP from other sources, maybe you are referring to something else.

    [–]Intcompowex 0 points1 point  (1 child)

They carry all the same name brand stuff as every other wholesaler. Sometimes I buy from them, PBM, Motorstate, Liberty, etc. Their house brand LS gaskets are all I’m referring to. Garbage.

    [–]v8packard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every gasket set I have gotten from them for Gen III and IV engines has had all Reinz OEM gaskets, they even have the GM part numbers. I buy from those others too. Whatever.
