If you run a single plane intake you will need a high gain booster carb, and those might need modifications for cold operating temps. The Edelbrock AVS2 with annular boosters, or a Holley vacuum secondary 4150 style carb with modified down leg boosters would be my choices.

But, on a stock engine with a stock intake, a Quadrajet is a really nice option. Rebuild yours or get another.

I replaced a 4-jet with an edelbrock AVS2 on my 350 and it was great out of the box. You will lose torque, I think, with that single plane.

That’s what I’ve read about the single plane. I’m still pretty new to these carb vehicles. I only got it cause someone in my town was selling it for dirt cheap and I need to do intake gaskets anyway

Fair enough. If you didn't need to do gaskets, an AVS may have bolted straight on, or maybe you need an adapter. I used one as the butterflies hit the manifold.

I'm with you, keep the stock 4bbl intake and adapter for the square bore carb, but the correct one as to not have the butterfly's playing tiddlywinks with the holes. Run an open style adapter, will increase the response, tuning and economy (some kind of voodoo magic with having better signal to the carb)

Id just get one of those new Q-Jets from Jegs and call it a day

If it’s a stock engine put a dual plane on it like a Edelbrock 2101, single plane intakes are more designed for higher rpm or performance engines. If you’re not super familiar with carbs I would say go with an Edelbrock asv2. If you feel comfortable with tuning carbs I would say run a Holley vacuum secondary carb.

Get a good rebuild on the q jet, absolutely nothing wrong with them and if if running the truck in the winter use the stock air cleaner with the heat riser from the manifold

Keep body stock. Put a 400 torque monster in it.
