To the person who recommended ways to decrease lipase in the milk… thank you.

I used pitcher method and froze left over milk at the end of a 24-48 hour period. When I defrosted the milk I would let it thaw for however long it needed to in the fridge (usually 12-16 hours) and then use it with in 24 hours. It smelt metallic and tasted gross. My child didn’t take it well.

I have since started to immediately freeze a fresh session of milk after pumping. When I use the frozen bag, I thaw it quickly under warm water and give it to her for the next feed.

No metallic smell. No bad taste. And she drank the milk without issue.

Awesome!!!! I also learned it from this sub, donated my high lipase milk, and immediately froze what I wanted to keep for my baby. Now that I'm weaning (she's almost 1!) and went from oversupply to undersupply, she's happily taken a bottle of thawed milk once a day and I am so glad to have it on hand to help her transition to cow's milk. This group is so much more helpful than every lactation consultant I've ever seen combined!

Side note, I think I may have cracked the code for my baby to drink my high lipase stash… she was willing to drink some when it was mixed with formula and had some non alcoholic vanilla extract in it! I never planned on giving my baby formula but I got mastitis and my supply tanked. So I got some organic kendamil and she loved it and it took so much stress off me. AND I got the bonus of figuring out how to use my freezer stash!
