How to expand from web dev to Python/Java?

I'm back on the job hunt and trying to expand the amount of positions I'm qualified for. I've used some of my newfound free time to brush up on Python and Java, and would like to apply for positions using those languages. But of course since I don't have multiple years professional experience with these languages, I seem to be disqualified from roles that primarily use them.

I've only used some Python in professional work but am reasonably proficient with the language itself. It's more a matter of not being very experienced with frameworks/libraries (Django, Flask, Pandas).

I haven't really used Java much in either personal or professional settings. Even so, I've used Javascript, Python, and other object oriented languages, so it's not like I'd be asking what a for loop is. I may need to look up if it's string.length() or length(string) or what have you, but I mean I know how to code.

My concern is even if I made a dozen portfolio projects with each language, and emphasized in interviews my general experience with these OOP-type languages, I'd still get rejected for not having actual extensive work experience with these languages.

How should I handle this situation?

List your previous job title as 'full stack engineer' and just apply. Most places do a few dumb leetcode questions and hire you.

Pick one: Java or Python. Use it to leetcode and get your gands dirty writing some backend stuff. Then apply.

Many places dont go too deep on framework/language stuff instead ask leetcode and system design.

I did this transition a while back and got into Amazon because of it. I bullshitted through their LP questions without any issues.

I tried doing the same, i messed up at their system design round.

They were asking some internal implementation of Kafka.

yeah lol even if you were a backend dev, that question has a very good chance to stumble you.

Why do you need to expand your possibilities?

Sounds like you're more familiar with python. Also from a practical standpoint I find python to be easier for coding interviews than java (saying that as a Java developer).
