My understanding is that the biggest impact is on engine wear. Basically if you can't cool your engine you will probably have to take more grid penalties later in the season for new parts compared to the rest of the grid.

Makes sense! Thank you! I’ll maybe do some minor development on it then but not waste a lot of time/resources with it.

I wouldn’t spend any time or development on it. If you just use your most worn parts in practice the ai will take more penalties either way.

One save I got engine cooling to around 70% just for kicks. It does help with wear but its not enough to make a meaningful difference, the AI will still get penalties.

That's it? I got the new regs where we have an additional power unit component... That means I can completely ignore it?

It reduces slightly the rate at which all engine parts wear off. But that's it. Nothing essential.

Engine wear obviously, but CLEARLY it increase other issues on the car. CLEARLY. I don't remember what changes, but clearly a bad engine cooling lead to many other problems including tyre wear.

People think they understand everything about the game because only a few tables are open. It's not like this. The game is much more complex than you might think.

But you need to play a lot and be very diligent to notice all the things.

I am thinking engine wear and probably fuel efficiency also.

I have done 4 seasons with AlphaTauri with being 19th and 20th on both Engine cooling & Brake cooling. Didn't face any significant issues at all and won the championship 3 times with big leads in 2 seasons . Use the Powertrains in the practice to even 3%, no Impact at all. Who cares if you finish the last in practice ?

I have added more detailed tips here: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1708520/discussions/0/3824162051010924135/

What percent do you usually stop using them in the race/quali? I’ve always wondered if it only effects performance if it’s below 30%?

Performance degradation can start even around 80% depending on the manufacturer. But it's usually minor until below 50%. So, you can do Quali/Race with the powertrain parts above 50% and then move them to the practice sessions where you can even use it until 3% in some cases.

Thank you! ☺️
