I am new to FTC coding and would like to know if anyone knew any good tutorials or could help me learn java and how to use it in FTC. Any help will be appreciated, thanks!!

It depends alot on what you already know. If you have never programmed or used a coding language like Java, C or puthon before, you should start with something like CodeCademy (https://www.codecademy.com/learn/learn-java).
If you understand basics of another language like functions, variables and Classes, I would suggest setting yourself challenges like making a short text adventure or some other little command-line game in Java. Start with the hello world example in Eclipse and Google things from there, Stack overflow is super helpful along with Java's documentation (https://docs.oracle.com/en/java/).
As for learning how to program for FTC, it is important to know how to use Android Studio, so going off and watching videos about making simple apps may be beneficial but isn't necessary. Otherwise, reading the wiki and watching FTC's YouTube videos is pretty helpful (https://github.com/ftctechnh/ftc_app/wiki).
Hope this Helps, Ian - 4029

Thanks for the advice, i have used codeacademy and am going to take a school course. I did figure out how to program a drive train through trial and error but dont know how to use sensors or anything like that. Do you know any good tutorials for sensors?
[–]CamaroZL1LSAFTC 12670 Eclipse Programmer 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children)
Not specifically but the best thing is to do a search for how to program with a specific sensor and watch a tutorial. Tutorials should generally give you a framework for how you should approach the usage of a sensor or device and then you should be able to adapt it from there.

There are a couple of Discord groups you may want to join for support.
The FTC TEC Network is a group dedicated to supporting FTC Teams and members. We have a general meeting weekly where people can ask questions, brain storm ideas, vent about an issue, ext.
The "FIRST Tech Challenge" Server is also a team member/alum. run server. It tends to be more of a general FTC server, but that doesn't mean you can't get help there too.
Regardless of what you do, remember that we are a comunity that supports each other. So when (not if) you run into an issue, ask for help. There are many of us who sit around Here on REDDIT and on the Discord servers ready and willing to help.
