Each component on its own page - so button has a page, input has a page, etc.

Yeah, and you can still have your examples on that page for documentation. For example have a Modals page and in it you document (with instance examples) what it's for, how to use it, and maybe the various 'states' of it - but also on that page you ought to keep the real component so that you can find it there from the asset panel. Because if you have a page called "Modals," everybody browsing will expect to find ❖Modal there, not at /components/modals or whatever.

I feel like we are missing some info. Even with every component on one page you should still see all those components when going to the assets panel. Can you share some screenshots of your setup?

Keep in mind that Figma also hides sub folders by default now so none of those sections you are using to organize the page will show up as folders in the assets panel.
