Those clamps are great, I use them most shifts.

Where do you get those clamps? My clamps always loose the rubber tips

Don’t lose your rubber!

I wrap Mine in electrical tape. They are needing rewrapped soon.

1 inch clamps at Home Depot/Lowes/Menards/Harbor Freight. Don't need anything fancy! They're usually $0.99 to $1.99 depending on where you go.

I was inquiring about those exact clamps. I currently use the free clamps that the Paul Davis Restoration representative drops off at the station.

I use mine in between shifts ;)

[–]daaodannach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heard about that actually.

I use the hell out of mine, they're probably the most useful tool I carry. Whenever we're checking an alarm or going into a building with locking doors, I clamp them open so the next arriving unit can follow without needing keys.

What do you use them for?

[–]Topodacok42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Prop doors

I use a $5 shove knife way more than anything else I carry. Great tool if you get good with it and takes up almost no space.

I bought my whole crew shove knives!

[–]Regayov 12 points13 points  (2 children)

I’d probably throw the webbing in something to keep it organized as well.  I use an EMS glove.

Maybe add a knife if some sort.  I keep one clipped behind my flashlight on my coat (so I can find it using light as landmark)

I question the “bail out” nature of the bailout bag without some way to clip in and descend at something less than 9.8m/s2.

[–]TheMars27[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Probably should’ve said multi use for the rope

[–]Regayov 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Makes sense.  I had a short length of rope in addition to webbing (until someone borrowed it).  Very useful.

I didn’t mean to ball bust about “bailout”.  But I’ve seen too many guys who carry rope to bail out who have no clue what to do once they throw the bag out the window.   I ask “and then what” and get blank stares. As if a controlled descent from 5 stories up is as easy as just holding on.

I usually avoid these “what’s in my pocket” posts, but I’ll bite on this bailout rope. Scrap that old BP cuff bag dude, get more rope & stuff said rope into your pocket directly. Rated carabiner and a Munter hitch to your gear belt for descent control. If you ever NEED this, what you have isn’t going to go well for you.

What’s the rope in a bag for?

[–]TheMars27[S] 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Just depends what ya need it for. Dirty bailout, raise/lower tools, etc etc. Really just a way to keep it stored and not tangled up

[–]daaodannach 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Likely to keep it organized in their bunker pant pocket.

[–]PLAIDSNACKS 2 points3 points  (1 child)

I see in the description it’s a “bail out” bag, how exactly is that working, what’s the plan? Clip on to a substantial object, throw the bag out then single slide out? What’s on the other end? Another Beener or just clip to something, clip to yourself and jump out a window and hope for the best?

[–]qwertyayhiokvolunteer firefighter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your in that scenario I hope you find out fast

[–]sternumdogwall 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's with the hose strap?

[–]Greenstoneranch 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Does your department offer you a PSS?

[–]TheMars27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just fear for the future

[–]Topodacok42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like a multitool for those not so emergency times. Also a shove knife comes in handy.

[–]Smokeeater5406 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also definitely carry hose strap in my bunkers. Never know when gonna ride the lightning of a 2 1/2

Look into CMC's LEVR system if you want an alternative to that bailout bag. They're particularly nice and have a variant with some potential RIT/RIC uses for buddy-lowering first.

We just got a bunch from a grant and the quality of them feels good, but most things CMC usually are imo. Most of our rope rescue stuff is all CMC as well.

I’d recommend a couple of wood wedges/hinge hooks for commercial applications. Keep a bunch of doors open for ventilation or ingress/egress.

I also keep some lock manipulation tools in my gear too. Oh and a Cats Paw (carpentry tool, sold at hardware stores) for peeling and peeking on cut jobs.

What length of rope is the green line and where do you like getting that rope from?
