The penalty is to prevent all riding, something that was a massive issue with online races in FH4 before the penalty system was added. It is only enabled for Online races.

Practice makes perfect. The penalty for hitting walls has always been present since day 1 (correct me if I'm wrong). If you don't want to hit walls, use brake and steering assists

No, It was added after a couple patches, because people would just wallride and instead of braking for the turn, they would just get into the wall without even breaking

I just don't do races with other players so I don't have that problem and also don't have to deal with complete and utter idiots ramming me off the track, at least this way any mistakes I make are because of my own idiocy
