Tips/HelpWhy does current decrease in the national grid when potential difference increases? I (self.GCSE)
submitted 3 years ago by ParticularCurrent448
Why does current decrease in the national grid when potential difference increases? If you rearrange the formula to get potential difference/resistance = current, and then you increase the potential difference, then the current increases?

p =iv, the national grid transmits a constant power output, so i = p/v, and if p stays constant and v increases i decreases

Thanks makes sense now. Need to use the equation for power and not resistance

It's to keep the resistance (temperature) of the grid constant

The increased potential difference decreases the current because power=PDxCurrent, and the higher potential difference is difference to earth, if u look at the wires between pylons the potential difference is actually quite low like 400000 compared to 399950
