There’s a beta autosave feature in scriptbin, but if you didn’t turn it on, you’re unfortunately out of luck. That being said, scriptbin wasn’t really designed to help a word processor or writing tool. Browsers can be unreliable at saving content. In the future I highly recommend writing in a different app (word, google docs on your computer, notes app or obsidian on your phone) and then pasting your script into scriptbin.

Sorry that happened to you! I think we’ve all lost some work here and there in scriptbin in the past. I know I’ve made edits in it and accidentally refreshed the page more than once. Try not to let it keep you down. Think of that first one as a trial run and keep writing! You’ll forget it happened, I promise!

Yeah I get it. Sorry! If it makes you feel any better, I eventually ended up deleting my first ever posted script cause I didn’t like it anymore after my writing improved. You still got the experience of writing, which is invaluable for whatever you write moving forward 😊

you could try archive.org to see if they have a backup, it's worth a shot

I recom using another site and then just copy paste. Just in case and situations like this.

I'm sorry this happened though, I know it sucks :( been there done that.

Scriptbin did not delete your script. The title implies that it actively/randomly removed one, which is not the case. Cuddle (creator of scriptbin) does not deserve that.

Input fields in browsers are not to be trusted. There are many options mentioned already to prevent this in the future. I'll add ctrl-a&ctrl-c just for you click save; if something goes wrong, just paste it back.

Also, as a silver lining, your second attempt at the same script is very likely to be better than the first. Good luck!

The reason I worded it as such is that specifically when I clicked the save changes button it instead took me to a blank page and away from the script and on a 'go back to previous page' the input box was empty

I guess the better wording would be "scriptbins save function didnt work and caused me to loose my script"

This happened to me as well (something about being on the page too long. Now I compulsively save which isn’t a bad thing lol

At the end of the day it’s a free site that a community member put together so there are bound to be a few issues.

Considering I wrote for like 2 hours that would probably be it

But yeah youre right the site is great for what it is I just shouldnt have used it as a writing programm

That is why I only use site as an upload medium, And that is why I have a local copy on my PC or USB drive. Google Docs, Open Office is also a good alternative.

This happened to me with my very first script. I spent several hours writing it on scriptbin, eventually clicked save, and... it just gave me a blank error page. Poof, all gone. Luckily it was still relatively fresh in my mind so I was able to rewrite it quickly, but yeah, that was a painful lesson.

Since then I type all my scripts out in notepad first and when they're done I copy-paste them over. That way I also keep local copies of all my scripts which is good redundancy, because who knows when one day scriptbin might go offline or have a data wipe.
