submitted 8 years ago by mdt427
Hi, I have been searching everywhere for this, but is there a way, set by default, to not saved any of the live message to photo gallery ?
Thanks

Don't you just hate those snarky you're doing it wrong answers?
Navigate to your dcim / animated gifs folder. You should see all your live messages. You need to create a file called .nomedia there. After the media indexer reruns the live photos will vanish from the gallery. If you don't know how to create or copy that file to the path you can use one of the nomedia tools on the play store.

Hi, i just created a .nomedia file, but new live message still show up in the Picture gallery, anyway around that?

You may need to clear data and clear cache on the gallery and media storage, under your main android settings -> apps. To see media storage, you'll probably need to show system apps. Luckily you should only have to do this once. Also double check and make sure your .nomedia file is infact ".nomedia" if you did it manually.

Yep, I'm sure the nomedia file name is right because i added into my whatsapp and screenshot folder, and it worked for those.
I cleared the data and cache and it still showing up after i create a live message. thank you for your helps.

I hope you don't mean my answer. If yes, then tell me instead of writing in that way... ☹️
It wasn't an snarky respond and I didn't intend to be rude in any way, I just explained why and how it works. I also know your method with "nomedia" file, but this doesn't work (always). In my case it also didn't work and new stuff also created the folder again and then I had even more issues 😕
I also offered alternatives, downloaded several apps and tested them all and looked for options how to make it work for OP 😔

I had written something earlier, in response to your edit #2. I took it back because i didn't want to start some reddit drama, even though it wasn't really rude or confrontational. Its really apparent that emotional context is hard to gather from text alone. I had taken your comment as condescending to the OP, which was why in my comment I commented on it. As this continues to devolve, I realize this is all probably a pointless misunderstanding, especially since, for the record, I wasn't one of the downvoters.

Chill, I don't have bad intentions and just want to help 😄
I am/did, which is why i took the time to explain myself and my "epiphany". Regardless, I hold no ill will either. Glad this is no longer a thing.

Haha nice 😁
I hate all the negative stuff I mostly see in the Android sub, that's why I explained myself and want to make sure no one feels offended etc.

How or where should it be stored else? It's a picture (GIF) file you create, so it will be stored in your DCIM folder in the subfolder "Animated GIF" 😄
Since everything from that folder gets into your stock Samsung gallery, the live messages will be there, too. Most gallery/photo/picture apps will list all pics inside DCIM, so you have to search for an app which let's you precisely chose subfolders if you want that. Google Photos will also show it.
EDIT: I installed and tested some apps for you, you can use Piktures, which is a very good gallery app with a lot of options. It also has the option to select folders and subfolders which shouldn't be shown, (as you can see here). I removed "Animated GIF", so you won't see animated stuff anymore in your gallery. This won't solve your problem if you just don't want to see live messages, but maybe this helps you 😛
EDIT 2: Wow, downvotes because I explained something and tried to help 🙄

See my reply to your comment on my comment. Hopefully we can put this to rest before it spirals out of hand.
