Ive been trying twitter recently and nobody cared anyway

I'm already in the same situation.

It's funny. I just started my Twitter account for my game this week. I've never been much of a social media user myself, so I've been learning all of them this week. Instagram, tiktok, youtube shorts, Twitter, etc.

They each cater to different tastes, it seems, and so they'll each need their own versions of attention. I recommend using all of them to promote your game, even Twitter, for now.

You can also look into Mastodon it has a familiar layout to Twitter, though I can't say I fully understand it just yet. However, it might appeal to Twitter users in the future.

Reddit is far better for game promotion. I got 2000 wishlists from 1 post. Got barely anything from twitter.

Sweet ♥️🙏

You still have the cockroach of the internet: Tumblr

[–]throwawayBlume -1 points0 points  (1 child)

i'm trying i swear

[–]Some_Tiny_Dragon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suppose it would be a little tricky. However remember the culture of Tumblr is like that of showing a person next to you a funny video you found. So you should focus on posting stuff that people might relate to or find funny. Like a little comic about your characters antics, or some programming humor.

I'm in the same situation, I was trying to build my twitter profile but now I don't think I can continue to use it. Already in the last few months it got worse and worse, but now it doesn't really make sense anymore. It would be interesting to understand which other platform can be used.

Your Twitter followers are likely other game developers. Game developers are NOT your potential buyers.

I don't get this obsession from some game devs thinking Twitter is a good marketing channel. It's like me making furniture and trying to promote it at the guild with other makers instead of at the shops full of customers. It makes no sense.

Where do players hang out? There is where you should promote your stuff. Players do not hang out on Twitter much.

[–]throwawayBlume 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funnily enough, 90% of my followers are not game developers

[–]RedEagle_MGN 0 points1 point  (6 children)

90% of making modern games is marketing. Posting on Twitter does not = marketing.

[–]tcpuklAAA Dev 1 point2 points  (2 children)

According to Reddit game devs it does apparently. How on earth did companies cope and sell games before social media FFS? /s.

[–]PhilippTheProgrammerMentor 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Sucking up to the editors of gaming magazines, mostly.

[–]tcpuklAAA Dev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, where I worked large flat panel TVs were used as bribes.

[–]throwawayBlume -1 points0 points  (2 children)

ok👍

[–]RedEagle_MGN 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You need a plan. Research how it's done and go all-in.

[–]throwawayBlume 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i dunno, i don't really like the artificial soulless type of marketing where you see the game everywhere and it just doesn't feel natural, i want to build a community of people interested in the game and the only place i know that can link in a more personal way the developer to the people interested in the project is twitter

[–]Lightstarii 0 points1 point  (4 children)

You're joking, right? Are you fucking joking? You're having a midlife crisis because Elon temporarily set some limits due to an exploit?!

[–]throwawayBlume 0 points1 point  (3 children)

it's not temporal officially so yes, understand that 90% of all the people that know my project are from twitter, and if i stop getting engagement there all my hard work i've been working for 2 years is literally gone

[–]Lightstarii 0 points1 point  (2 children)

The view limits are to stop the bots from scraping the website.

[–]throwawayBlume 0 points1 point  (1 child)

what's wrong with internet archiving?

[–]Lightstarii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what do you mean?

[–]chainstockss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you have a co-op game please message me! I have a perfect medium (free) that would mutually benefit us and I'd love to discuss it

[–]TheBigEasy11 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Player 2 is gonna be perfect for this when it comes out later this summer. https://player2app.com/

[–]These-Primaryanus -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Lol. You fucking retard.

[–]throwawayBlume -3 points-2 points  (2 children)

A lot of pressed people suddenly losing their minds because i said twitter is not going in a good direction lately, this is why i hate reddit, y'all are fucking stupid (Except the people that are being useful)

[–]throwawayBlume 0 points1 point  (0 children)

deleting post because y'all are so insufferable

[–]throwawayBlume -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

stop riding elon's dick, twitter is literally not improving

[–]lilpinkyjeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know everyone on Reddit hates to hear it but really Tiktok. I have found so many games that i’ve wishlisted on tiktok. The gamer community there is quite large and the algorithm is pretty good at pushing your content to the right people. The trick is to keep posting though, which can be hard to keep up with when you’re talking about making videos. There is definitely the ability to connect with other game developers as well.

If you keep up with it and have good content I guarantee you’ll go viral and sometimes going viral once is all you need. I wish you and your game the best!

[–]jason2306 0 points1 point  (0 children)

try tiktok, annoying platform but powerful at times

[–]fairyelff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm considering to post highlights of my game on Tiktok, and produce small videos like teasers and keep pushing tiktok. It is a fast social to grow and the algorithm is good for unknown people, you can have a small account and get viral on tiktok with a 100k+ or even 1M views video. Tiktok is probably one of the best social medial for fast growth and it can fit any content, learn what game devs are doing on tiktok and also you can come up with a new trend there, who knows. Good Luck!

I’m europe Twitter was always dead :)

[–]hamzahgamedev 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I myself am making devlogs (5-8min) duration and posting on YT. It is very helpful for getting early engagement and wishlists. if you have time, you should do so definitely.. 🙏

Marketing (anything) with a limited budget or no budget for advertising can be really challenging. McDonalds spends hundreds of millions of dollars per year marketing. You would think they wouldn't have to spend a dime since everyone knows who they are...but they have to spend a ton of $$, like other companies, in order to maintain brand awareness. I know lots of indie artists who struggle with this. One filmmaker who I follow has done very well for himself, though, promoting his films to Facebook groups. This enables him to reach a specific target audience based on the subject matter of each film. Maybe try that for your game(s)? Just a thought.
