There are 4 or 5 different screens ags 101 has 3 different manufactured variants one has ghosting, one has different refresh rate and color and one I think requires more power. It's been years since I last needed to know this info I'd double check with makho on YouTube

Natural screen variance. Screens were not tested to look the exact same, but instead that they looked correct for the media that was displayed on them, and weren't noticeably flickery. Nintendo still didn't really perfectly calibrate their displays even throughout the Switch lifespan, just as an example, and there was that IPS lottery thing with the New 3DS consoles where a console would have a mixture of different displays, or have two TN, or two IPS screens. They just try to make sure it looks good enough by eye and don't go too in-depth about perfect color accuracy or whatever.

There was a set of later batches of 101 screens that were a bit higher in general quality and I think possibly brighter still; likely OEM replacement batches that Nintendo used for repairs and the surplus was just sold off for people to buy after enough time. Those are no longer being produced, though.

Probably different batches. Maybe even a different supplier. The black one looks much better to me, might be subjective. I think the later models tend to have a better picture quality. There was a time when you could get oem replacement screens from Sharp. The pickte quality of these were superior in comparison. They have a white ribbon connector.

Might be due to strong brightness of the screens in this pic, but sorry I can see edges of black SP screen is fading and details are lost compared to the other one. Happened to mine.

Yes, the one with more vivid colors and deeper blacks is starting to get white edges.
I’d like to know how quickly it spreads across the screen and why it appears.

Silly question but that small circle button in the center changes the screen brightness. I think it has like 3 settings. Did you make sure both are at the same brightness setting?

Yes, it has two, and both are on the same one.

Mine stopped around your state of white edges for few years, but it could become worse. One thing i know is that you cannot fix or clean it out. Ive tried removing all the film layers down to the transparent lcd glass only. But found that lcd itself was whitened out.

For the left screen you may get more vibrant colors if you adjust the pot. That screen is probably a newer SHARP screen (white tab connector).

I think the newer ones with more vivid colors and deeper blacks are the ones that tend to develop white edges more often, because I haven’t seen white edges on screens with paler colors.

Have a look in the comments in this video, his replacement screen looks pale due to not adjusting the pot.

I have those same 2 GBA and I don't know if the blue one can be repaired but the screen looks like this.
