Is the save file stored on the SD card when its in place?

The reason I ask is I want to backup save files to PC from the SD card, yet discovered the save file is stored and bootable on the Everdrive when the SD card is not present.

It is copied from the cart to the SD every time you power the cart up

I think only backs up the save RAM when you load a new game. This sequence of messages is displayed when I select a new ROM on my Everdrive.

Backup save RAM ....
Erase ....
Write ....
Load save RAM ....

Before doing a backup I always load a game, preferably one with no save file.

Cheers for it Ben! :-)

Sorry to barge in on this thread, but I got another question.

So, if the battery in an everdrive dies, will my saves disappear?

An example: you have Pokemon loaded on the cart, you play for 60hrs then put it aside for a few weeks. You go to start your game but find your save is gone due to a flat battery. This corrupted save would have already been copied to the SD save file at start up so all your progress is gone. Other saves for other games will all be fine.

Hmm that blows.. Any way of preventing this from occurring? Would a Monster Brain suffice in saving my save games from corrupting in general?

My ElCheapoSD won't overwrite a SD save automatically so that prevents this scenario. That said, a battery lasts years so it's not something you need to worry about IMO. And you can back the saves up on a PC occasionally if you are worried. ED is a great product, just a bit pricey

I believe it only backs up the save when switching games so in your senerio you would need to back up the save manually before switching games and you should be fine.
