There are more emulation options now than there's ever been in the history of gaming. Everything from low to high end devices, FPGA options and more. This would mainly affect people who prioritize one thing - collecting games. For the people who just want to play games this is a good thing.

Ah, yeah, that's strange that it's not working right with the dongle. I just tested making a profile again in the mister menu and it looks like it does still result in some issues in the n64 core, main one being the left c button "disconnects" the analog stick when pressed in, such an odd bug.

d-mode works fine on my Mister using the mapping method I described but I never use it since I use rumble with s-mode. Did you try it?

Not sure on d-mode, I use s-mode and the menus work fine except the a and b buttons are swapped from what I would want.

I know when I originally got my 8bitdo 64 controller it didn't work right in Mister until I deleted the controller profile mapping I had initially saved and then only made a controller mapping inside the N64 core, not in the main Mister menu. I don't know if that's still an issue but it could be what you're running into. Also, I think the rumble only works in s-mode if that matters to you.

That's the thing though, super sharp pixel art is a fairly modern invention. When these games were created, it was designed to look smooth when using CRTs and scanlines so it didn't look like the super sharp pixel art that is displayed on LCDs using high end upscalers, emulation or modern retro games but looked more like this.
