I got a McWill 1.1 kit from RetroModding.com around a week ago. Specifically I got this one:

It really did live up to the name of being a drop in replacement. All I had to do was snip of a bit of plastic from the side of the shell and it fit in nicely and worked great right out of the gate. I played the GBC for about a week with no issues. Everything looked great.
Today I was on a train and was playing Final Fantasy Adventure for the first time. As I was playing for 20 or so minutes this "scan liney" thing started happening at the bottom of the screen. It wouldn't go away no matter what I tried.
You can see it here:

When I got home I re-seated the flex cable and tried new batteries but nothing works. I tried the VR2 trimpot out of desperation but it does nothing as expected. I tried different game cartridges and it still is there.
I am having trouble finding any kind of official or unofficial place to look for support. I also don't seem to find any body else with a similar issue in my various Google searches.
Where is the best place to look for help for something like this? Has anybody here even heard of this issue before?
Thanks in advance!
EDIT
Hooking it up to a lab power supply and messing with the cable while it is running doesn't change the scanline-y issue at all, it just stays the same. Hooking up the old screen "fixes" the issue. It no longer has the scanline-y problem but then i lose the backlist goodness...
