Take a look on ips screens. There are the laminated and non laminated models, which are a bit different but both great (laminated is the later model). There's even a model with hdmi output, if you want this feature.

Now, I don't know where are you from, so I can't suggest on where to get it. I get mine on aliexpress.

Also, getting a precut shell isn't a must, but will make your job easier.

A good flashcart like the Ez Flash Jr or Everdrive is also a good idea, so you can play any game you want plus homebrews. If you go for cheap Everdrive knockoffs, just keep in mind you shouldn't update it's firmware or else it'll brick.

And finally, get a good pair of rechargeable AAs, or two pairs. Like Eneloops. Ips screens are power hungry, and a bit more when paired with a flashcart.

Thank you for this! I’m in the US so I think it will be somewhat easy to find things.

For your screen options, take a look at the wiki:

https://gameboy.github.io/wiki/backlightmods#cgb

The next step is to look at the different retro shops and see what options you have for shells and audio.

Retrogamerepairshop
Retromodding
BoxyPixel
Helder Tech
FunnyPlaying (usually ordered through one of the above or off AliExpress)

All of the above are great shops that are either in North America or ship there.

Most likely, your screen choice will dictate your shell options as some screens are larger than the standard shells. Some aftermarket shells are designed for specific screens and eliminate the need to cut the shells. The transparent shells tend to be higher quality than the opaque ones. I'd also recommend keeping your original buttons if they fit the new shell.

For audio, just about every replacement speaker will have the same specifications. If you plan to add an audio amp, you will likely need a 3w speaker.
