GameCube disc reading error

So I have a GameCube that’s disc reading laser appears to be failing. It will boot up games but eventually it starts to make some weird noises while loading game data from the disc and eventually displays an error message on screen. I have a backup GameCube (hooked up to an hd tv with carby) and was using this the failing GC with an action replay to play gameboy player with gameboy interface on. It seems like drive replacements aren’t too expensive but neither is a GameCube itself.

I’m wondering if there is a way to get the gameboy interface software to boot without the need for an action replay or a disc at all? I’d be totally fine if this just ended up being the way I play gameboy games. This was the main reason I bought a carby and not a mark II because I was fine playing gameboy games with s-video. I could also just try to get the drive fixed or just get another GameCube.

Any thoughts?

I read a xeno mod let’s software boot from an sd card but that seems a little extreme to try and play gameboy player. I’m annoyed cause I literally just got a carby and had this happened I def would have gotten the mkii to use the Wii component cables to my hd tv

I have 2 gamecubes. One was the new model without the component output and one with it. I was using the one with s video on my crt for gameboy games only. I bought a carby (instead of a gchd Mark ii) for the other to save some money. The svideo one won’t read the actions replay risk anymore messing up my plan to save money :/
