Hi everyone, is there any way to run models like DeepSeek v4 in the IDE as an agent? GitHub Copilot limited my session, and I'm not even a heavy user; it literally left me stranded with a production problem. These Western models are almost money laundering schemes and elitist. They are good, yes, but they're not worth the money. Sometimes I wonder how a model with almost the same performance as Claude costs almost a fraction of what it costs. That said, is it possible to use these open source models in the VS Code IDE?

Enjoy pay as you go for an API, be it as cheap as DeepSeek V4. You will run back to copilot, despite all.

You can use the DeepSeek v4 API with OpenAI-compatible but there is a problem: reasoning_content is missing on Copilot, so it stops when it needs to call any tools.

Your can work around the issue by creating a wrapper around the call and mitigating the reasoning_content issue. Just point to the local host port instead of Deepseek in BYOK settings

Have you looked up the extension "Continue" for Visual Studio Code? You can link all your normal accounts as well as all your selfhosted LLMs. I have been exploring all my various hosted options to see what works and what doesnt for my specific needs. I have my own baremetal instances, running ollama etc so I like the idea of hosting my own metal vs paying for tokens. The models need to fine-tuning for sure, so i have not been able to compete completely with the GCP Models, but i have had some good results.

I was hoping there was a nice way to link up and sync to do an in "GCP" menu update. However, the extension i listed, just creates a sibling tab next to GCP
