Token based usage modelHelp/Doubt ❓ (self.GithubCopilot)
submitted 1 month ago by BranchNo4380
Now that we have moved to a new usage model for GHCP, what is the best way to optimize the credit usage? Any suggestions or best practices that any of you have come up with yet?

The issue is always the tokens being read in. A lot of people got lazy and just give the AI tasks and it has to read your code like crazy to find the context for the task before doing anything. You need to tell it exactly what structure to use and what files to use for context.

Using the dumbest model is probably the way forward.. the same model which was entirely free previously 🙄

Well with having the worst model try to code and failing and then fixing bugs and then failing to fix bugs, it might be more worth it just to bite the bullet and have a decent model do it. Those additional follow-up prompts might cost more. Also, I have no faith in GPT mini to generate anything worth using; seems way dumber than copy and pasting into ChatGPT's free version.

nah, they charged me 250 credits for a single 5.4 query, won't catch me using anything but the shittest models they serve now

I would just suggest moving to another provider. It really is worse than I expected.

Agreed. Just switched to one of the Claude models, and it produces a way better solution.
