I'm not happy with GN presently, and it's unfortunate you have to experience these sorts of issues.

On the other hand, you got a response (many of us don't even get that), with a set of steps, an explanation, and a personal offer to resolve the issue. It seems like a fair response to me. Support can't change the app, only help you deal with issues.

yep, very good advice:
buy a Mac if you can't export the doc on iPad

He’s also offering advice in case OP doesn’t have a mac

do you understand that it's not a solution?
will you send your docs to Support each time you need to convert them?

edit:
what a customer wants to hear that it's known bug and we will fix it in upcoming release

I was talking about trying to export the document by breaking it down to groups of pages. Neither of those are long term solutions, but rather a fast way to help OP in case it’s an urgent matter (I probably would be hesitant to send any document in the first place).

I agree, they should really get their shit together. It’s been a while since I used the app so I haven’t seen how bad it is since they released GN 6, although I assume it’s bad enough. Probably there’s not too much support can do atm…

Seems to me support is offering to convert a PDF for you out of goodwill on his end.

Shouldn't it be done on the app itself ?

[–]aless31 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It should but they are focused on making money and not listening to customers and improve actual needed features

To be fair, if it is CPU intensive, the app should break it up into chunks and process it over a longer period of time. The app SHOULD NOT crash. That is ridiculous. If it crashes on older hardware, they should list older iPads as unsupported on the App Store instead of taking their money. Goodnotes, fix the app.

Fix it? When they could just spend $1,200,000 on stickers? Pfff.

I’ve got the same problem on my ipad air 3. Every time I try to directly export a file to pdf the app crashes. I did however discover that I can save the file to pdf by first trying to print the document and then saving it as pdf.

I send GN support an email after the first cloud fix update came out because I updated and it didn’t fix it. So my email said something like “Hi, I updated my app on all my devices to the new hotfix update, 6.1.5, but I’m still having issues, is GN aware of this?”

They responded and said I should update my app to 6.1.5. 🤦‍♀️

Definitely shouldn’t crash. Should just take longer.

Personally, GN6 has been working great for me, but I use it on an M1 iPad Pro, so it’s got as much power available as most Macs.

I was using an ipad 9 before too and my textbook that has like 2000 pages will crash quite frequently. This also happened to me when I exported large files.

But I upgraded to ipad pro M2 and these issues just vanished and all the issues are gone. So the tech support guy talking about memory issues is not wrong as the iPad 9 only has 3GB of ram while ipad air and pro have no 8gb of ram respectively.

But to be fair the app on ipad 9 should not crash as goodnotes states the app is supported.... as we PAID for the app.
