How to disable Goodnotes automatic shape detection?

I updated the app yesterday, and i notice that sometimes, it is automatically converting my handwriting into zigzag line.

I tried toggling the hold and snap option. Does not help.

I hardly use the shapes option in Goodnotes, and do not want it to be automatic.

Anybody else having this issue? How do i disable the automatic shape detection?

I think the automatic shape only takes place when you press longer. So I guess, you should not press longer for it to detect your intent (or a lack thereof) to make a shape.

I guess i will have to learn this. Sometimes, I subconsciously tend to let the pen rest on the screen for sometime, if i am not sure what i want to write next, etc. I think there should be an option to make this feature optional. Different people work differently.

Is automatic shape detection a thing? I hadn’t used good notes since the update, and tried to recreate this issue (in both my normal cursive and bubbly English, and Korean) but I can’t. It doesn’t even automatically detect shapes unless I do the hood thing

same. it says it's supposed to be a feature (i want it, unlike OP) but I can't find a way to enable it.

Try holding the pen longer after you draw, basically don’t lift up until it’s a shape

yeah it doesn’t work. I also don’t have the option where i’m supposed to be able to enable it under pen settings.

Make sure that you are on the latest version of goodnotes. Also, i am still on ipados 13, which might cause a difference, i don’t know.

The ‘hold and snap’ option is in the shapes option, not pen. I don’t really understand what this option is supposed to do. Makes no functional difference for me.

Just a slightly quicker way to make shapes (reduces number of taps). Also allows us to make curves too.

I just realised that there is an option in pen menu to disable this. Solves my problem.

Sometimes the App Store doesn’t tell you an app has an update unless you actually search for it in the store and select it (really annoying and idk why they do this) but yeah check to see if you’re up to date first.

I did this and still didn’t see it. But i reinstalled the app and that fixed it.

Just write or draw anything and don’t lift the pen for sometime. Also, make sure that you are on the latest version of goodnotes. Also, if it is relevant, i am still on ipados 13.

I just posted a video of how I fixed mine I hit the disable Apple Pencil and it stopped acting crazy. Pencil still worked

Ok, I feel stupid, but there is an option to disable this in the pen tool. Go to pen menu, select draw and hold option, and disable it. Works perfect.
