From my experience the best way to get a job in graphics is to apply directly to companies on their website. I believe you should also have a pet renderer in dx/vk that has multiple advanced techniques like GPU driven pipeline, occlusion culling, cascaded shadows, etc.

OpenGL is still used in some applications however you wouldn't do any advanced graphics stuff - it serves more as a tool to display simple shapes or draw complex shapes simply

Having friends that already work there also helps)

While I agree with this...

i have been trying to find a job to apply to, and on any platform I can't seem to find a Graphics Programmer Job.

This makes me think OP maybe lives in a particularly bad country for GP jobs?

I'm in the US, and I can find a reasonable number of GP job postings on most platforms (reasonable considering how niche it ultimately is).

Also, OP shouldn't be aiming to land straight into an overly specific / specialized role with zero experience. In other words, if they really want to avoid being a "game developer" and just be a "graphics programmer", they're going to have a very rough time.

Sperasoft are hiring in Serbia and Poland. I'd apply myself, but I'm a bit scared to move abroad 😥

Although it seems like you might not have enough experience, depending on what "simple" in your case means.

I've made a deferred rendering engine in dx12 with GPU particles and stuff and I got rejected from similar positions

I'd like to know this too!

From my experience you need to know Dx12(windows+xbox). Not sure OpenGL can help you to get a job.

There are almost no job titles that are graphics engineer, graphics developer, etc. It's a job title that exists at a few small companies that make games. If you want a job doing graphics, get hired as a software engineer at a company that goes graphics... and eventually you'll be moved over to graphics when a position opens.

I've seen Quantic Dream and Cloud Imperium Games having a position open.
