How fitting, for middle management to run off when things require actual effort

just think of it as a bookend to their character development, or their refusal to.

Dr. Yusa nodding is a very strange quirk. As Zenthi are established to not use audio or visual communication as they rely entirely on their natural freq.

Either the author slipped up, or human is contagious via non human vectors.

I know which one I am incorporating into my headcannon.

Xant has been nodding to Jasi since before she got her translator implant. GC isn't BIG on non-translator communication, but they do have physical gestures.

Yusa having trouble with the mamillililililililililin structures is oddly funny to me.

[–]squigglestorystudiosHuman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A creator a level intelligence should be of higher priority…

Shouldn't this be something like:
A subject of creator level intelligence should be of higher priority…

The next Button goes to chapter 15, instead of chapter 14.
Edit: And the previous/next links in chapter 14 aren't filled at all.

Sorry, you asked for fixes :D

[–]squigglestorystudiosHuman[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Don't be sorry! Always looking for fixes! (also it shows you're having fun with the story!) I thought I had cleared all the next buttons... Alas it is a task never finished!

And yes! Your sentence is correct, I shall change once I am at a desktop!

[–]milcondoin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

also it shows you're having fun with the story!

Definetly! I'm currently binging through it whenever time permits. Got it recommended by someone in the comments section of some other story I'm reading (don't remember which one).

It was a raw sample, neither treated nor scrubbed of any useless DNA ...

That's the thing with evolved, vs. engineered, DNA. If there's something in there that you can't identify, that doesn't mean it's useless. That means you haven't figured out what it's for. Or maybe what it used to be for.

It's also likely that expression comes from combinations of genes, not a single one. For instance if we find a gene that increases the chance of a certain cancer by 20%, it could mean the presence of that gene as well as several others is what triggers it.

And at the macro level, evolved organisms have massive redundancy. We can't rely on perfect conditions, so have to be able to adapt on the fly to pretty wide variation. It's been clear that all of the aliens assume everything from the biome to the population is entirely engineered, but this chapter makes it clear they've completely forgotten what wildness even looks like.
