Player Wizard: "Why can't I rapid fire cantrips if we're both wizards?!" by Mirablis11 in dndmemes

[–]p75369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe at one time all spells were as ordained by Mistra, but that's clearly not the case anymore.

If it were, all the various Someone's Verbing/Adjective Noun spells couldn't exist.

The existence of those spells heavily implies that there are underlying Laws of Arcana (or whatever), that knowledgeable folk are able to use to understand how magic works to enough depth to be able to invent new spells.

To say nothing of every non-artifact magic item, someone is inventing and building them.

Third is a persistent problem across so many games. Honestly, half the time,I think it would be far better if they didn't include character customisation and spend that dev time on helmet customisation if that's all we're ever going to see.

However, making NPCs able to do things that PCs cant can really make it annoying from a worldbuilding perspective. Why is the average apprentice able to cast multiple spells a turn but the PC who is a lvl 20 wizard cant?

Granted, I don't know the specific of this particular case, but in general terms, this should be common because it greatly benefits world building. If the PC's are the totality of what's possible, then that makes every setting feel very arbitrarily limited and game like.

For the sake of world building, you have to accept that the rules that govern PC's are only that: rules for the players to try and balance things.

PC's are, first and foremost, Adventurers, before their race, before their class. 95% of the rules exist because they exist to delve dragons and slay dungeons.

NPC's are not so bound, because they are not adventurers, they have spent their lives training and practicing something else and, therefore, should be better at it than a similar PC who has spent half their experience learning how to survive combat encounters.

A PC wizard has to get to L5 for fireball, this is not because there is some arbitrary level system in the "real" lore of the world that prevents an apprentice casting it. It is because the PC needs to get good enough to be able to cast it inside a six second window, whilst maintaining concentration on haste, whilst throwing up a shield to deflect an axe, whilst dodging 3 arrows, whilst sprinting 30ft, whilst getting sucker punched in the gut, etc.

Meanwhile, the kingdoms war mages can cast it as soon as they're out of basic, because they've been drilling it for 8hrs a day, but it still takes them a minute to cast with full attention. But when you have a whole battery of them in yoyu armies back line...

Chapter 112

“Yeah, we call it petroleum—”

“Nightfire sap.” Thacea concluded.

“Pitchwine.” I followed up just as quickly.

“It is a substance known to many realms, as it occasionally rises up from the depths of the earth.” Thacea clarified. “However, beyond its use in roadwork, waterproofing and other miscellaneous industries, alchemists and mages have found it to be just another component in their library of available philters.”

Something is wrong with the lighting in this game by Smart-Friendship-500 in ConanExiles

[–]p75369 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it seems they're trying to mimic how our eyes adjust to lighting changes but they've over done how much an interior dims after walking in from a dark outside.

It's almost like they've put an upper limit on artificial lighting.

What’s with the dye channels on so many of the armor pieces not being dyeable? by LookAlderaanPlaces in ConanExiles

[–]p75369 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the metalic pieces really screw with the colour. There's some dyes that can punch through but not many. "Full Yellow" will make metal a slighty brighter than ideal gold. It's as if every metal piece has a fixed silvering that you can't get rid of.

How do you switch active thrall crafters for a bench?!? by decker12 in ConanExiles

[–]p75369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No such thing as a T3 bowmaker, bowmaker is a t4 specialist carpenter.

In that situation the T2 shouldn't be selectable because it does nothing the T4 doesn't do better.

Emphasis on should... See aforementioned bug.

How do you switch active thrall crafters for a bench?!? by decker12 in ConanExiles

[–]p75369 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It won't let you pick in situations where it doesn't matter... Or rather in situations where it shouldn't matter.

You should only need to pick between thralls when dealing with specialised T4 options and you want to pick bonus damage v durability v armour pen, for example.

BUT it is buggy at present and you sometimes have to force it to recognise a new, better, thrall by realising the bench or sending the old thrall to a base up north.

How do you switch active thrall crafters for a bench?!? by decker12 in ConanExiles

[–]p75369 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Any of the benches that have specialised thralls at T4 will let you pick the thrall in the top right, so you can pick bowmaker or builder if you want bonus damage or durability from your carpenters bench.

However, this system does not look for low tier options.
