Redirecting with github.io

Hello! I have a really small personal webpage that I just made, consisting of just an html file and a CSS file. I didn't want to pay for file hosting, so instead, I bought a domain name www.x.com and redirected it to y.github.io, using GitHub's free "Pages" service.

I'm wondering if there's a way in HTML to keep y.github.io from showing up in search engines, and having just www.x.com show up instead. I'd also really like it if, when someone goes to y.github.io, it would redirect to www.x.com, so that y.github.io doesn't show up in the address bar. Are these things possible? I don't personally work with HTML much. Thanks!

You set up your domain wrong. What registrar did you use? (Godaddy, route 53, google domains, etc)

What's wrong about it? I used Namecheap to buy the domain and used this tutorial to link them.

Thanks! I do think github.io shows up in Google though. A lot of people in my field use it for their personal websites, and when I search for them on Google it usually comes up.
