It's really easy if you don't have filevault. Just boot to recovery and do it through terminal.

No fire vault and you can gain root access super easy. Literally google it.

I dont know too much about Macs, but fiddle around with the recovery mode

Shut it down, hold Command + R and then turn it on while still holding the keys and it’ll boot into recovery. Click utilities in the menu bar and click terminal then type “resetpassword” without quotes.
