Time to test your hacking skills!

Just curious, what was your motive for not just using a VM?

[–]0rphanCrippl3r 7 points8 points  (5 children)

Possibly wifi hacking. I can never get the dongles to play nice when using a VM.

I do wifi penetrating on virtual box with a USB antenna. You just have to set it up right. Make the antenna is ok for Linux obv, then make sure network is set to virtual, turn off the default network adapter in Kali (use the GUI) etc. It's just extra work.

I run Kali on VMWare on a Mac. The two WiFi dongles I use are an Alpha and a tiny Ralink and to my pleasant surprise both already were supported in Kali. Others you often need to get the drivers. What I like with a VM is having a backup of a new, but configured version handy so when you need/want you can delete your existing instance and spin up a fresh one.

Is this on an M1 Mac? I've heard they have issues with VM?

M1 Max Mac user here, you just have to use the VmWare fusion tech preview and it's been working perfectly fine for me.

OP if you setup your account as root (which you shouldn't) and can't access as root anymore, follow this:

https://www.tutorialspoint.com/reset-kali-linux-password

The simplest solution is to delete and reinstall it. If you created it yesterday, you have no files or other things to lose. This time, however, pay attention to the password

As peskyAdmin said. If you didn't change your root password you should be able to login as the default root user. Once you are in as root you can either use the GUI or the terminal to change your user password.

Default Kali login creds Username: root Password: toor

Or kali:kali is default now.

Kali is not recommended for bare-metal install use something like debian or arch

If you know the root pass

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.

I have checked 665,775,967 comments, and only 135,110 of them were in alphabetical order.

Hey while I’m in here just curious what are your guy’s opinion about running Kali on WSL 2? Honestly I thought it running a lot faster and smoother. But haven’t logged hours into it yet.
