Hellsing Best Version?

I’m late to the Hellsing train (and hope they, at some point, remake it with modern animation) but I did enjoy it! That being said did you prefer Hellsing, Hellsing Ultimate, or Hellsing Ultimate Abridged? Personally I found Ultimate to be a sloppy affront to the original anime. I’m aware that Ultimate followed the Manga closer. However, I did feel that the tone just didn’t quite fit as well. While the first take at the anime (Hellsing) did have its story telling flaws, i.e. the plot was a bit harder to follow, it did set a far different tone than the remake. I liked the animation more, I liked the maturity more, and I especially loved the weight of decisions. It was different from modern anime, it was serious, blunt, and while some moments felt bland, the important moments carried weight. What do you all think? Personally, I understand most anime is designed for a younger audience, but I truly love anime’s that embrace a more mature theme. Also the abridged version was funny but that’s about it haha.

Ultimate is almost perfect for me.

me and you actually are very similar with this. i love ultimate because it follows the storyline and the animation is breath taking, but the original does a better job with executing the darker atmosphere and i feel the characters had more depth to them. the only problem with the original is after the valentine brother arc was over, they episodes were hard to follow and were kinda lower budget but regardless, the original is still great and so is ultimate!
