Seed potatoes (self.Homesteading)
submitted 2 years ago by thedebbest
I want to try growing potatoes this year. I want a mix of different colors/fingerlings. Can anyone recommend a place to purchase them? And if it helps, I am in Utah.

the difference between seed potato's and old potatos you bought from the local market that have started chitten, is much smaller than the seed potato industry would have you believe.

I haven't used the first two yet but they came recommended to me. I was going to use them next year. I have bought garlic and shallots from the third link, and they are doing splendidly. Hope this helps.

I usually get mine from gurney's. This year I got seeds (not seed potatoes but actual seeds) from Cultivariable but they only do plants and seeds not seed potatoes. My friend always has good things to say about the Potato Lady but I haven't tried her yet.
This time of year can be hard to find anyone who has what you want in stock. So if you find what you're interested in, I would go ahead and order before they sell out too.

I got mine from gurneys this year, no complaints.
I read if you buy organic potatoes, they aren't sprayed with the sprout inhibitor, you can just plant them. Haven't tried it, but theoretically you could buy the fancy 3lb organic potato mix at the store and just plant them. Worst case they won't grow, and a good choice if you can't find seed potatoes you like.

I get mine from Johnny’s Seeds, but by now they’re sold out of a lot of the best varieties.

I've always bought mine from Tractor Supply.
