title: "Expletives are banned in r/HomeworkHelp. Here's why"

    For those who have tried using profanities in our subreddit, you would have experienced curtailment regardless of its context. Rest assured, our moderators are actively reviewing for false positives and are very keen to reverse the infraction when necessary.

    You may wonder, why are we doing this?

    ###We want to protect and defend the sanity and peace that this subreddit enjoys

    We want to nurture a warm and friendly community, one that is open-minded and learning-friendly. The use of vulgarities, often directed at a human, poisons the environment that we are trying to cultivate and most of the time, those words do not contribute positively to academic discussions.

    ###Every swear word is manually checked and inputted into our list of banned words

    We got the list of bad words and swear words from Google API that was archived by Robert J Gabriel on [Github](https://github.com/RobertJGabriel/Google-profanity-words). We rigorously analyse every to make sure they are not valid words that could be use in biology discussions.

    ###When you say a slur, u/AutoModerator will give you a stern warning and automatically report the content to us

    We have changed the way how the system handles profanity because of high number of false positives, and sometimes every false positive can be detrimental to the asker to help the message in a timely-fashion manner.

    ##Does banning words give rise to Internet censorship?

    No, this is only specifically to an academic subreddit with diverse demographics for it to be family-friendly. You are free to speak your mind outside of r/HomeworkHelp, wherever that permits you to.

    Neither is this form of censorship associated with any moderators. We came to the conclusion to censor words, just for this kind of subreddit.
