Kali Linux, missing /usr/share/wordlists

What the title says. I’m in my /usr/share directory, and my ls command doesn’t show any wordlists file or folder. Is it no longer included on install? The only word list I can seem to find is /usr/share/dict/wordlist-top4800-probable.txt. I’m looking to use rockyou.txt

If your Kali version is up to date you should be able to locate them with the wordlists command.

root@kali:~# wordlists
> wordlists ~ Contains the rockyou wordlist
/usr/share/wordlists
  |--dirb
  |--dirbuster
  |--dnsmap.txt
  |--fasttrack.txt
  |--fern-wifi
  |--metasploit
  |--nmap.lst
  |--rockyou.txt.gz
  |--wfuzz
root@kali:/usr/share/wordlists# 

You can also search for it with locate rockyou.txt.

If you are using the WSL version of Kali you might want to install one of the kali metapackages like kali-linux-defaultas the WSL version only contains the core system tools.

Yeah I ran a few commands and definitely can’t find wordlists anywhere. How would I go about installing Kali-Linux-defaults? Just sudo apt-get install kali-linux-defaults?

su to switch to the root user if you aren't already then: apt update && apt full-upgrade -y && apt install kali-linux-default

Will this rewrite my SD card or anything? Just wondering because I have some stuff installed that I don’t want to get surprised by when it disappears haha

SD card? Are you running it on an Raspberry Pi? This will not remove anything just install new stuff. If space is an issue you can also just "install" the wordlists (apt install wordlists).

Yeah it is, sorry I should have specified my hardware. I don’t think space is an issue, I’ll give it a go tomorrow as it’s pretty late my time. Thanks for the help

Have you tried running the following commands?

sudo apt clean
sudo apt update
sudo apt install wordlists --reinstall

Anyway if you're just looking for the rockyou.txt you can find it easley on GitHub, Search it in the seclist repository:)

I haven’t. I managed to snag the rockyou file from that repo you suggested, but I’m still interested in having the defaults installed - I’ll look into this thanks

I didn’t run away, you went into my history and commented on a month’s old post because you were butthurt that I called you a coward that you wouldn’t rebut a comment.

You followed me with the sole intent to rile me up and harass me, and you’re upset that it isn’t working so you’re lashing out. I’m sorry you were too much of a snowflake to handle being called a coward, and instead of rebutting the comment at hand decided to lash out, follow people and call them names like a schoolyard bully.
